I took a beating yesterday. Not sure that big GIMO trade was the best idea. We'll see in a few days after earnings. I may have to exit that one and just take my lumps.

I got in another trade that's working out. My first in maybe a week. I've yet to experience a bad trade of a stock, and it's not like I'm holding any for an extended time waiting for them to go up. Maybe I could go the entire contest like this. The scary part is that my real life stock picks mirror the ones in this contest and I'm getting bolder in real life, so hopefully this isn't a fluke.

If the real picks mirror the ones in the contest, that's what I'd consider success. To test out the principles in a safer environment than real life, real money.

As for getting bolder in real life, that's a different story. Kinda like walking into a casino and doing well at the poker table and thinking that is easy money and the casino house are suckers.

That's why I said before the contest lasting 3 years is good to test the principles over several ups and downs.

As for my strategy, to use a baseball analogy, I'm happy playing for singles and some doubles here and there. Not going for the home runs. Oh, and playing good defense too.

My stock picks are the same or similar but I'm not investing 50% in one stock in real life like I do in the game. I've been considering investing up to 25% in one stock though, which scares me. I read "Nearly every big mutual fund out there that's calling itself diversified is entitled to put 25 percent of assets in an individual stock. But we just don't see that too much..." which doesn't help me much because I'm tempted to do it more than not too much. But for now I'm not.

Congrats! The only time I was in first place was on day one as the only contest entrant .

But I'm really not "in it to win it", but following my system I expect to end up at least in the upper half. If so, I'd call that success and discipline.

Looking at the leader board at start of this morning, good news and bad news.

Good news I'm behind you (who has led part of the contest thus far). The bad, you've dropped to 9th place.

Don't look now, but leading is Boho. A tiny lead, but on top.

Looking at your contest portfolio allocation, to my surprise you are actually a lot more conservative than I expected. Holding at the moment even more in cash than me. I expected you'd be all over the map trade crazy, but that's not so...at least for now.

Fidelity won't give me a margin account so I can't trade very often there and I don't want to do extra research for this contest. I could probably double my rate of return in this contest if I put in the extra hours. I don't need my A game just yet.

My way of thinking is being conservative is good strategy. Of course, to some, money not in is money not working.

Is it normal to frequently check "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread" when you're number 1 and imagine them trembling as they send PMs to each other to discuss how they could possibly beat me?

Well right now it's you, me, and REWahoo looking at this thread, and I know from his past posts that REWahoo is a buy-and-hold mutual fund investor. Me too. So we really aren't PM'ing each other about how to beat you....

True. But that doesn't mean we're not PMing each other saying "What an ego!"

I went as high as 18% IRL. Fidelity's analysis says "We see that a significantly large portion of your money is invested in a small number of investments. Be aware that DRAD makes up 18% of the value of your portfolio." I'm thinking of making 20% my limit for one stock, with a maximum of 30% in stocks.
