'Traveling in the 1 bar zone'.

'1 bar' referring to a cell phone signal strength indicator, not a pub.

Another way to say "Off the beaten path"?

I usually plan my own trips, sometimes destinations can be exotic and sometimes ordinary but usually they are focused on special interest plus sight-seeing. I get request from friends for my itinerary after my trips. I just call my trips "My DIY dream trips". The "DIY" stands for "Discover It Yourself"
