Our big summer trip was to Kansas City, MO. :D Not nearly as exotic as most mentioned here, but we had so much fun. Got the hotel (Hotel Phillips) for $54/night and KC Royals tickets (very good seats) for $7.25 each on Ebay.

Did the Boulevard Brewing Co. tour, visited Steamboat Arabia Museum, farmers market on Saturday morning, Power & Light District at night and too, too much very good food.

I highly recommend it for anybody wanting a short, "cheap" trip.

After I retire in July 2012, am hoping for more beaches and islands, etc.

Royals stadium a beautiful facility and easy to get to. A shame they haven't been able to field a quality team for some time. Like you not going on exotic trip, but flying out to Tahoe through Reno, to attend a Sammy Hagar concert in the great mountain air, and catching opening weekend of betting on NFL.

Well actually we decided to cancel our trip to Argentina as heard that flights had been cancelled again this week due to the volcano spewing in Chile. Doesn't seem worth the risk and stress of that happening to us.

We are going to southern France mid-September for a week of poking around the Riviera. Then we return via Paris for a quick four day visit. Really looking forward to it.

Leaving for London on Wednesday. Be there 11 days. Mostly just staying in London with a few day trips.

Good luck. I was there for a week in late July of 2008 and the temps were near 100. And no, it wasn't a dry heat...
Well, it's a La Niña year (hence our heat and drought) which *usually* means wet and cool on the west coast. And so far, it has been a wetter and cooler summer out there than normal. But with my luck we'll get the heat wave of the summer...

Now that I'm a veteran ER - don't travel much - just visit some.

Kalama and Callam Bay Washington
New Orleans
Rangeley Maine
Branson Missouri
San Diego CA

heh heh heh - see the USA in my Chevrolet - er something. :greetings10:

One Place at a Time, One Year at a Time

My wife and I recently moved from Texas to a small Caribbean fishing village in Mexico. We plan to stay here for a year them move on to someplace else; for a year. Always looking for suggestions and advice.

I go on "vacation" next month (retiree's really don't get a vacation  ).

DW is going to Switzerland for two weeks; I'm staying home with the dogs  ...

Went for a quick weekend jaunt up to Minneapolis, as fares are always cheap from St. Louis to there (about $100 rd. trip). Went to see a play at the Guthrie Theatre. If your into buildings and theatre you need to go here once. Absolutely beautiful facility.

Trips Planned

Just wondering if anyone has any exciting trips coming up that they would like to share. We are about done for this year, so am willing to live vicariously thru the travel plans of others.

About the only things we have on the horizon is a trip to UK in Jan for a 50th birthday (brr feeling cold already), perhaps 1 more trip to Hawaii this year and maybe drive to Seattle and Vancouver for Christmas.

9/3/2011 - Maine! Acadia National Park 6 nights Camden 2 nights.

12/18/2011 - Cruise Carnival Legend - Key West, Grand Turk Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman. (I should put Casino since I spend so much time there)

4/2012 - in the process maybe a Cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale

Weather for our excursion to Oregon (leaving tomorrow morning) -- highs around 80, lows in the mid 50s. I think I can cope with that for a week. :)

Sounds delightful! Hope you enjoy your trip. :greetings10:

We don't have any travel planned, though during hurricane season nature sometimes inspires us to go on a brief, unplanned road trip or two. So far, no storms have threatened us at all this year.

Fishing in British Columbia

We took a Baltic Cruise in July...one stop was Oslo, but luckily we were there about before that terrible tragedy. Wednesday we're flying to Vancouver Island, British Columbia - 2 days of salmon fishing (for the guys) at Painter's Lodge at Campbell River, then a couple of days in Victoria. Hope the weather and the fishing are good. We've cleaned out the freezer in anticipation. Anyone been to Painter's Lodge?:)

Not really so exciting, but I'm currently spending 2 weeks in North Carolina visiting my mom, 2 sisters, my middle daughter & 5 yr old grandaughter (attended her birthday party yesterday) and a few friends. My best friend from high school still lives here in my home town. A big bonus is that the temp was only 77 degrees yesterday, but it was 106 back home! Maybe I'll just stay here till fall...:)

I posted some time ago that DW and I will be traveling to North Carolina in early September to visit my sister and BIL. Brother and SIL from Ohio will be there also. Purpose of trip is to celebrate birthdays in the family. I'm turning 75 in September, sister and BIL turned 70 earlier in the year and little brother is turning 65 next week. We're all five years apart so every five years we get together for this event. We were planning on staying a couple days and then return home but now DW wants to take a side trip over to Atlanta and visit her uncle. Haven't seen him in 16 years. Now I have to get on the computer and find out what's in between that we might want to see. Thinking about north Georgia to see the mountains and then head down to Atlanta. Got to start searching.

Lucky you, I'd give anything to be able to spend two weeks with my Mom. I hope you have a really good time.

I am going on a 5 - 6 day solo backpacking trip to the Wallowa Mountains in two weeks. It is about a six hour drive from where I live and it is absolutely beautiful and has a lot of wildlife (elk, deer, mountain goats, marmots, black bear, cougar, wolf).

A few nights at an oceanfront resort hotel at a North Carolina beach in six days, then another week at a different NC beach in a rented house a month from now.

We just got back from 10 days in Nova Scotia. It was lovely. Hiking, sea kayaking, camping...at least when it wasn't raining!

The weather should be good. Can't say the same for the fishing. At 5 am, it is pretty chilly out on the ocean. You will see Cruise Ships passing by on their way to Alaska. From an aluminum fishing boat they will seem immense. I caught 7 salmon on my first trip but only 2 on the second trip.
