Fishing in British Columbia

We took a Baltic Cruise in July...one stop was Oslo, but luckily we were there about before that terrible tragedy. Wednesday we're flying to Vancouver Island, British Columbia - 2 days of salmon fishing (for the guys) at Painter's Lodge at Campbell River, then a couple of days in Victoria. Hope the weather and the fishing are good. We've cleaned out the freezer in anticipation. Anyone been to Painter's Lodge?

Not really so exciting, but I'm currently spending 2 weeks in North Carolina visiting my mom, 2 sisters, my middle daughter & 5 yr old grandaughter (attended her birthday party yesterday) and a few friends. My best friend from high school still lives here in my home town. A big bonus is that the temp was only 77 degrees yesterday, but it was 106 back home! Maybe I'll just stay here till fall...

I posted some time ago that DW and I will be traveling to North Carolina in early September to visit my sister and BIL. Brother and SIL from Ohio will be there also. Purpose of trip is to celebrate birthdays in the family. I'm turning 75 in September, sister and BIL turned 70 earlier in the year and little brother is turning 65 next week. We're all five years apart so every five years we get together for this event. We were planning on staying a couple days and then return home but now DW wants to take a side trip over to Atlanta and visit her uncle. Haven't seen him in 16 years. Now I have to get on the computer and find out what's in between that we might want to see. Thinking about north Georgia to see the mountains and then head down to Atlanta. Got to start searching.

Lucky you, I'd give anything to be able to spend two weeks with my Mom. I hope you have a really good time.

I am going on a 5 - 6 day solo backpacking trip to the Wallowa Mountains in two weeks. It is about a six hour drive from where I live and it is absolutely beautiful and has a lot of wildlife (elk, deer, mountain goats, marmots, black bear, cougar, wolf).

A few nights at an oceanfront resort hotel at a North Carolina beach in six days, then another week at a different NC beach in a rented house a month from now.

We just got back from 10 days in Nova Scotia. It was lovely. Hiking, sea kayaking, camping...at least when it wasn't raining!

The weather should be good. Can't say the same for the fishing. At 5 am, it is pretty chilly out on the ocean. You will see Cruise Ships passing by on their way to Alaska. From an aluminum fishing boat they will seem immense. I caught 7 salmon on my first trip but only 2 on the second trip.

Going back to Guatemala and El Salvador November 29. Will be part of a medical mission there. We will use a mobile clinic to see patients. Thank you to those on this website who have offered to send medicines to our hotel there. We will make good use of them.

Barcelona is amazing! Do not miss the Sagrada Familia cathedral. As you may know, it is still under construction and has been for 125 years. Even though it is unfinished inside visitors are allowed to enter (for a fee). Do not pass on this opportunity! As fantastic as the exterior of this building is, you have got to see it's interior. It is extraordinary.

Have a great trip!

We leave for southern France this evening where we have a house rented for a week. On our way back, we stop in Paris for four days. I am pretty jazzed about it. I always am no matter if I've been to a destination before or not. With retirement on the near horizon, I will never take these opportunities for granted.

Flying to salt lake city from SoCal to do the jackson hole , grand teton, yellowstone thing this upcoming week.

I'm renting a jeep which is more $ but I found it to be worth it for the extra fun factor when I jeeped around before in hawaii on the big island.. (thanks btw to the board for suggestions on the trip in a different thread)

If you are interested in sports. Barcelona is arguably the best soccer team in the world at the moment. Catching a game at the Camp Nou might be fun.

I'm flying to Denver next Thursday (9/22/11) and heading up to Rocky Mtn. National Park until Tuesday. I haven't been there since 1975. If the forecast is correct we will have nice sunny weather and around 70 degrees at the lower altitudes.

Thanks. I just received word of something amiss in our timing for this trip I am so keen on visiting Barcelona after researching and choosing to stay in a really nice hotel. Looks like we may have to change our destination and make a shorter trip this time to a closer destination. Will keep you all posted as to decision.
