Today was the 92nd time this year we've hit triple digits. No need to stick a fork in us, we're as overcooked as the turkey in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation...

Take a cruise of the inland waterway around Ft Lauderdale and admire the mansions and yachts. With another 3 days, go to Key West just to experience the culture. It is unlike anything on the east coast.

Today we toured Avignon and appreciated what the popes did for the city in the 13th and 14th centuries, the seat of the Catholic religion for 2 centuries and 6 popes. Tomorrow it is Arles and Aix-en-Provence.

There are some great restaurants in downtown Fort Lauderdale and a water taxi on the intercoastal that is fun to take.
We have enjoyed cruises from Fort Lauderdale during January--and we have been surprised at how chilly the weather was (couple of years ago we wanted mittens as the temps went below freezing!), so you might get to use your Canadian outerwear while you're there.

Missed that question. Are you asking about Ft Lauderdale or Everglades?

Florida in January is usually chilly . I wear jeans or chinos and a sweater or occasionally a light weight jacket . You can rent a car and drive through the Everglades or you can rent a car and drive to Key West . Both are interesting places !

The only travel we have planned is a tentative escape plan for at least a couple months next summer. That will be even more necessary if we have no water next summer...

Friday night... The Bunny and I will be thinking about beaches, boats, bars, and tropical drinks with those colorful little unbrellas! We are going to see Garratt Wilkin & the Parrotheads at Feather Falls Casino. They are billed as the #1 Jimmy Buffett tribute band in America. We shall see....
We will be staying the weekend at Feather Falls KOA, with Indian Mike & Chirs...Chirs is turning 55 this week, and she wanted to get out of town for her birthday.
Feather Falls Casino is 2 hours south of Shasta Lake City, CA...in the town of Oroville, CA.

I'll bet Keith and DW are travelling independently.
One of my colleagues at w*rk flew to Paris with his family this summer. They travelled around France and Italy for 5 weeks, using Eurail passes and an iPad. They followed whatever route they felt like that day and used the iPad to research interesting locations and make the reservations. In between, they rented bikes and cars. They had a wonderful time.

I am boarding a plane in about an hour and heading to the Yucatan to spend a week doing absolutely nothing that does not involve sand, salt and cold drinks.

Not me, but DW returned last Sunday from her latest sojourn, in Switzerland.
Just a few photos from the other thread:

We're off to Maui in April, but that's next year and too early to talk about.
I understand somebody is giving me surfing lessons (and I can't swim )....

Going to the Jackson Casino, (3.5 hours south of Shasta Lake), this coming weekend, for our first Airstream rally...

We used Rick Steves' France 2011 and Hertz. We also used VRBO, Venere, Booking and HotWire. We did all the booking with an 8yo HP laptop with wifi. We are home now, having returned from Nice yesterday. While in Nice, we visited Cannes, Antibes, Cagnes sur mer, St Paul de Vence, Monoco, and Menton. We also visited some friends in their villa north of Vence.
(We did a Med Cruise in 2005 with Celebrity. That got us going!)
