Barcelona, Spain visiting---Information please.

Hi,
We are staying in Barcelona, Spain for 1 & half day. If you have been there or are from there, can you please tell me what can we see or visit there?
Do we need Euros or American currency acceptable?

Need Euros - can get from an ATM there.

See anything by Gaudi - cathedral, park at the north of the city, housing area - the coast is pretty, too. Google ten best of Barcelona and it will tell you where to find these sites. I was there for a business trip for 2-3 days - had about a half a day and was able to see most of what I wanted.

We stayed there for 3 days at the end of our Med cruise. Lots to do and see. We stayed in Ramblases and would recommend that because you can walk to so many shops and restaurants.

Been there twice. The main sights are well documented in the usual places. Gaudi's Cathedral while still under construction is truly amazing. A must see.

The have two nice buses (red and blue I think) that run around town. You buy a daily ticket and can get on and off as you please. IIRC the red, north bus passes by lots of Gaudi sites including the park and the cathedral. The bus is a good option since you only have a day.

Great city! Other than being somewhat smaller, I put it up there with Rome & Paris for variety & sites. Old town is great walking with a Picasso Museum. Plenty of tapas bars. The actual cathedral is in the old town. This area is right by the Ramblas (Main toursit drag in American lingo.) which is 1-2 miles long I'd guess. The "Gaudi" cathedral folks are talking about is the Sagrada Familia. Started in 1880's and isn't expected to complete to ~2150. One bus route takes you to a great overlook site/mountain. It's on the south side. The architecture of the old train station is quite nice - down by the end of the Ramblas near the water. I think hotels right on the Ramablas are overpriced. Stay a couple blocks off the west/city end for a little more reason IMO. Nice beaches right in city but you can do those anywhere.

Besides all the already mentioned great places, see if you can get to the monastery at Montserrat just outside of town and accessible by local transportation. Then you take a funicular (cog car up the mountain).

We will be in Barcelona for 1 day on our cruise in early June. We plan to use the ride-on buses to get around to the Gaudi sites.

I was there many years ago.

It is a big city with a lot of history. Develop a plan. If you are there for only a short time, you will have to pick and choose!


You should check out the La Rambla for a stroll (but it is very long).

Checkout the Architecture.

Don't be afraid to try the local food... it is a little different... but that is part of the experience.

Like most major Metro areas, they have many parks, gardens and a large Zoo.
