Chicago - Phoenix driving trip

I plan on driving from Chicago to Phoenix in Sept or Oct. I'm looking for a scenic route - at least part of the way. I've done route 66, and Durango to Silverton in Co. I'm thinking of taking 80 to Denver, maybe farther, and turn south along a scenic route through Colorado or Utah to get to Phoenix. Anyone have suggestions?

Ronstar, there are a ton of choices, but I'd probably go from Denver US 285 to US160 to US191, then AZ377 to AZ260 to AZ87.

Ronstar, I really like the backroads from Albq. thru the White Mtns and the Salt River Canyon thru Globe and Superior. It also cuts mileage and drive time a bit. About 40 miles before Quemodo there are some most intresting natural hollows in the large rock formations and in the past when I have stopped just to look at them, have seen a cellist or two who had lugged their insturments up just to practice. Awesome sounds! My personal opinion of the Salt River Canyon is that it is more awe inspiring than the Grand Canyon. State Highways in great condition.

We were so impressed with the sights in Utah that we may go back there soon.

There are various Route 66 routes over the years, like it included part of Kansas originally. You could do some of the alternate loops. Although west of Phoenix, my favorite part of R66 is Kingman to Oatman AZ.
North of R66 is the old Lincoln Highway, might be interesting if you can find the links.
