Copper Canyon

One of the places on our "would like to visit" list is the Copper Canyon in Mexico. I've found out a fair bit in my internet searching and have found some what appear to be decent tours. However I would be interested in hearing from those who have previously done this location as to the need to be part of a group and what you deem essential viewing. My thought is if we do the Copper Canyon we should tack on a few days in Mazatlan afterwards.

This is one on my dream list as well, please keep us posted on what you finally decide. The train ride sounds so extremely cool!

Several years ago we took the Grand Circle Copper Canyon trip.

It was, easily, the single worst trip we have ever taken. We did take the train ride to the canyon (easily the best part ) but when we arrived at the canyon we were pretty much on our own. Very primitive facilities and very little to do at the canyon other than looking at it (no tours, no trips, nothing ) Overwhelmed by trinket selling indians whose main pasttime seemed to be drinking coca colas and eating potatoe chips, the owner of the lodge was a private individual rather than the mexican state and it was plain to see he was trying to maximise his cash flow....really a bad experience. The views of the canyon were very scenic, but very poorly handled......

that was our first and last trip with Grand Circle.......
