Been in Kauai this week and wanted to note two great and reasonably short hikes that we did:
1. Kalalau Trail, NaPali Coastline, Hanakapiai Beach, Kalalau Beach
. We weren't sure what this hike entailed so we started too late in the day to hike more than to the incredibly beautiful Hanakapi'ai Beach and back...tho we played on that beach for over an hour. Nice elevation changes, amazing views and very muddy hike...this little taste of this trail makes me want to hike the entire trail now. Reasonably popular trail for the initial stage that we did so was relatively crowded.
2. Nualolo Trail
. This trail is in the famous Waimea Canyon area...simply the best short hike I have probably ever enjoyed as the treat at the end of the descent will leave you breathless...the view around Lolo Vista Pt is off the charts! The hike is moderately difficult as it somehow feels more than the actual elevation descent/climb due to the altitude perhaps...roundtrip 8 miles so minimum 3.5 hrs. There were a constant stream of tourist helicopters taking people at $200 per head to view the Vista view but hiking it is much better as u have the time to soak it all in. We saw only 8 other hikers during our hike so not crowded.
