How well traveled are you?

I'm often very impressed with how well traveled many of our members here are, so maybe this is a chance for you to brag a bit.

How many countries have you visited?

For this poll, my definition of a "visit" is spending at least 48 consecutive hours there. I think that would assure you had a chance to see a bit of the local culture and not just hang out around the airport or pass through enroute to somewhere else.

For me, my country count is 18 but I still have quite a few more I want to visit.

Somewhere between 11-15, but that is soon going to change dramatically (knock on wood).

13, but climbing year by year. Didn't count Wales and Scotland as separate.

There was a poll exactly like this a few years ago. If memory serves, there was even a debate on whether US territories like Guam or Puerto Rico should be counted apart from the USA.

Unless I missed one or two, my count is at 30. In fairness, the vast majority of those were on business, but I did get to see the local culture in all of them.

The trip that most concerned me was Uzbekistan. We arrived at 2am without Visa's, just government issued letters "entitling" us to visa's upon arrival. After a 2 hour wait we got it straightened out. The other concern was the proximity to some really dangerous areas (Afghanistan e.g.). There was no safe way in or out except by air. In the end: glad I did it, glad I'm retired and don't need to do it again.

I don't have the international travel bug like some. I will most likely be the least traveled on ER.
Been to only two countries.
1) Canada more times then I can count.
2) Aruba once.

Couldn't/didn't count all my Caribbean cruises, would have put me 30+.

I answered 19 in the poll but I did not count vacations in Martinique and Guadeloupe as they are departments of France (ruled directly from France), or Puerto Rico.

Now that we live in England we expect to visit several new countries in Europe over the next few years.

Around 65-70 maybe.....there's a map site somewhere where you can input places visited and get a pictorial view.

Thank you, not a poll, but here it is:
How many countries have you been to?

Once I went through that map instead of simply relying on my memory, I realized that I was up to 21 instead of 18.

Nevertheless, I stil have at least half a dozen I want to get to.

While living in RSA, we took advantage of visiting many of the nearby (and not so nearby) countries. It help to boost the total. I did not count my business travel that would have placed the number over 30.

Something over 40 all but one or two on pleasure trips. Only 5 continents, missing Australia and Antarctica. I am cool on Australia but my wife wants to go, so it will happen. We're probably too frugal to drop the $30-40K it would take to get bragging rights to Antarctica.

And that was ~ 5 years ago so I'm sure there have been additions for many people.

I use the Travelers Century Club definition, which is pretty liberal; England, Scotland and Wales are separate countries and even Alaska and Hawaii are counted separate from the mainland. I did exclude Slovakia, which Travelers century Club would allow because I passed through it on a train, and came up with 32. Planned for 2018: Kathmandu (already booked) and likely Mexico in 2019.

I quit counting at 16 because I suspect that it was not more than 20, but you have piqued my curiosity so I may try to make a list. There are a few that I changed planes (Japan, Thailand) or refueled at (Aruba) but I didn't count any unless I left the airport/went through customs.

Just thought of a couple more... so it may be more than 20. Almost all were through work or school.... like who in their right mind would go to Hanoi if they didn't have to?

(I did count Puerto Rico even though technically it is a territory and I counted England and Scotland separately).
