Surprised? yes, very surprised to see Piedmont even mentioned. [Comment deleted]! Just my personal observation/awareness of [deleted]. Had you said the entire Bay Area or upscale Northern CA 'hoods in general, I would not be surprised....Piedmont Avenue neighborhood, Oakland[/URL] - Surprised? Upscale neighborhood, near perfect climate, everything (including a BART station) withing walking distance.

I want to retire where I am but I wouldn't mind spending six months in Spain. But I would like to learn Spanish first. How come nobody wants to retire in Spain? Some of us -not me- are in love with Obama. .....for the moment
....Only problem is location - Rodeo is about 170 miles from anywhere (anywhere defined as Tucson AZ)....

There are many parts in Spain where you don´t really need much Spanish.I want to retire where I am but I wouldn't mind spending six months in Spain. But I would like to learn Spanish first.
Don´t let that second sentence dissuade any of you from coming here.Maybe your second sentence answers your first.

Paris. It's beautiful, seductive and full of light.
I was in Paris for awhile last year and nobody was rude to me. I almost feel ripped off, I was bracing for the legendary rudeness.
Without a doubt, Amsterdam. Lots to do and I mean lots, most speak English, close enough to other countries to visit cheaply as lots of transportation choices there, people are friendly in Amsterdam, lots to do, lots to do, lots to do. That would be my #1 place to go of all the places I visited ever.
Never mind Basque! Amost nobody speaks the lingo, even there. And not many will given its difficulty. Anyway got no use for petty nationalisms. That's the good news. The bad news is that you need Basque.
