Members in Tokyo - please help select a Hotel.

Hope to take a trip with my wife to Tokyo either late Aug or Sep. JAL has a package (Discover Japan) that offers a choice of either Pacific Hotel Tokyo or Imperial Hotel Tokyo. The difference in cost isn't that much but we would like to stay in a hotel that is convenient and close to the usual tourist attractions.

JAL - Vacation Packages

Last time I was in Japan was 23 years ago and do not remember much as far as the city is concerned. The tour is for 7 days and 5 nights. We hope to extend our stay couple more nights to explore Tokyo on our own.

Any advice is deeply appreciated.

I haven't been to Tokyo for a couple of years, but I usually stay at the Fairmont, across the moat from the Imperial Palace. It's smaller, feels more like a family hotel, but fairly easy to get to the subway, the shinkansen, ginza, shinjuku, and it's within walking distance of the budokan. And during the sakura season, it's absolutely gorgeous.

Enjoy your trip!

Imperial is close to Tokyo Station...the heart of the city and a major hub for commuter transport. It is not too far from Ginza, easy to get to Shinjuku, etc. The Pacific is across from Shinagawa station. Not in-convenient, but less convenient to the main attractions than the Imperial.

When are you coming?

I went to and typed in Tokyo Imperial Hotel and Tokyo Minatoku Pacific Hotel and read the reviews of both hotels (link next to the red stars. Odd-the link is in Japanese but the reviews are in English. There were 88 reviews for Imperial Hotel.) and Imperial Hotel had much better reviews by a huge margin. I would stay at Imperial.
