Passport ID theft

I have a youngster who works overseas. She applied for a job in China, and subsequently discovered that the website was fraudulent and probably an identity thief. Question. What damage can be done with a copy of the identity page in a U.S. passport? I understand that this may be prevalent in China.

Quite a bit especially if they get the SS number from another source which may not be all that difficult. It has name, address, DOB and nationality on it.

Best to freeze the credit at the three main bureaus now.
