En route to Mackinac Island this September, DH and I hope to catch a Cubs-White Sox game in Chicago.

I have been Googling and checking travel sites. Do any of you have a hotel recommendation near Cellular Field/Red Line?

We are looking for a safe/mid-$$ hotel ($200 or less) with restaurants within walking distance.

Thank you.

I would stay downtown and Uber/cab/ L train to and from the game. I wouldn’t want to be walking around near the White Sox ballpark after dark.

Or before dark, for that matter, unless one is safely with a game day crowd. It's just not a safe part of town.

There really aren't any hotels near Guaranteed Rate Field (the new name for the White Sox’s park). There will be a ton of people going to that game but probably best not to plan on walking around much away from close to the park. I second the idea of staying farther north. Lots of Hiltons in the city.

Thanks to all of you; DH thought as much.

This is a day game, 3:10 pm.

I’ll be looking for downtown hotels near the Redline.

Any favorites hotels that meet criteria for ease of getting us to the game, let me know. Thanks again.

I can’t remember the price, but we stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental on Michigan Avenue - just north of the river in the hub of downtown. Really liked it. It’s 3 blocks to the Grand Station on the red line. Also stayed at the Sheraton a couple of blocks east on the north side of the river and it was ok. It’s probably less expensive than the Hotel Continental. Stayed at the Hyatt at McCormick place that was convenient for a Bears game, but I’d rather stay farther north. All of these stays were more than 5 years ago. We usually drive to Sox games, train to Cubs games.

Is that anywhere near Comiskey Park, home of the famous 1979 "Disco Sucks" celebration (and the White Sox)?

The White Sox Guaranteed Rate field is across the street from the former Comiskey Park. Games were played at Comiskey while the new park was built. Then the new park opened and old Comiskey was demolished and made a parking lot.

And Steve Dahl, the perpetrator of Disco Demolition is still on the radio in Chicago. I still listen to him, yet he has calmed down a bit.

Hmm, looking for something unrelated, I have found a bona fide bed and breakfast for you near Guaranteed Rate Field: Benedictine Bed & Breakfast | Monastery of the Holy Cross

Plus the proprietors may be able to put in a good word for the team you’re cheering for....

Well, I'll be..

Glad you alerted me to this. Interesting.

This Travelzoo deal was in email today. (Google creeping on my searches again)

Checking Tremont website just now, looks like Travelzoo saves us about $5.00....

Parking is $67/night.

I know it is nothing like the Benedictine Monks' place. :(

Seriously considering booking it. Input welcome.

The Benedictine B&B probably usn’t in a fun neighborhood, of course, but interesting concept!

The Tremont is a great choice. You could also use an app to find parking near the Tremont—I searched on Spothero for two days starting 9/22 and got $53 for the total cost of a spot close to the hotel.
