Travel recommendations in Germany?
Does anyone have any recommendations of must see places to visit while travelling in Germany?

The most beautiful place we saw there was Bamberg. A jewel, untouched during the war because it wasn't worth bombing. Lovely.

I am partial to Bavaria and the Black Forest area myself. I enjoyed visiting Munich as well as Ludwig's castles (Neuschwanstein in particular). Baden-Baden was a nice town too.

For how long do you go and what are you interested in?
For me Berlin would be a must, including a day trip to the former Concentration Camp at Oranienburg http://www.stiftung-bg.de/gums/en/index.htm
If you are interested in tachnical things: do not waste time for the technical museum at Munich, go to the new one at Berlin www.sdtb.de/English.122.0.html

I would put Cologne/Koln on the list as well. The Dom, the museums, the Romanesque churches, and the not-to-be-missed Kolner Brauhauses.

I very much enjoyed the history of Berlin. Berlin probably isn't the most thought of place in Germany to visit but I really enjoyed my stay.

So many places, it really depends upon your interests. To add to the suggestions, see castles along the Rhine and Mosel river by train and/or boat. Rothenburg is a wonderful medieval city. Hitler's Eagles Nest was both informative (with a tour) and beautiful. Dachau. Nurenberg. The world's largest model train layout, by far, in Hamburg.
Kind of an odd first question for an ER forum, but welcome anyway.

When you visit a city or area you may want to explore renting a bike and tour the city with it.
Helmets are not necessary. Berlin for example is perfect for biking. In various cities biking tours of 3-4 hours are available. You will see much more than on a standard tour by bus or by public transport. If you like biking you may enjoy one week tours, bike renting and accomodation included.
I am living in G., so let's know what you want to see / do and we may find it.

My favorite towns in Germany are the well-preserved medieval ones. My two favorites are Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Tuebingen.

A first time visitor to Germany can probably get more out of Bavaria than anywhere else in Germany
Top Bavarian sights are
1) Munich -Museums and Beerhalls
2) Alps -Berchtesgarden and the Eagles nest, Royal castles
3) Rothenburg
4) not in Germany but you just pop down to Salzburg and you have
seen the best Germany can offer in a reasonably short trip
I'm prejudiced, Ive taught in Germany and these are my favorite places although Koln should be on anyone's list.
