Telegraph.co.uk - Hillary Clinton in negotiations for Barack Obama to help pay off her debts

Hillary Clinton in negotiations for Barack Obama to help pay off her debts : June 2008 : Toby Harnden : Foreign : Telegraph Blogs

Excerpts from the article

Negotiations are understood to be taking place between the Obama and Clinton campaigns about the Illinois senator helping to repay some of the massive debt incurred by his rival. One of Hillary Clinton’s donors said that the former First Lady’s campaign was as much as $40 million in the red.

In a conference call with major donors this afternoon, contributors were told by Harold Ickes, a senior Clinton adviser, that she was unlikely to pull out of the race until the issue of her massive debts was resolved. The New York senator has lent her own campaign at least $11.5 million.

One source close to a major donor said: “It’s not about the vice-presidency or any other position she might get. It’s about the money – in particular the Clinton family money.” The Obama campaign might have to reach deeply into its well-stocked coffers in order to secure the full support of Mrs Clinton and her husband Bill in the November general election.

End of excerpts.

It appears that the $40 million debt is the reason that Mrs. Clinton is still hanging in the race.

Mr. Obama would be a fool to pay off her debt.

Unfortunately, paying off an opponent's debt has a precedent and is one of the few ways to get rid of them. Some places it would be called bribery, but- this is politics, after all.

I think that $40 million campaign debt by HRC seems much higher than the $20 million being floated about a couple of weeks ago. Maybe Puerto Rico is much much more expensive than it seems.

Obama, Obama, Obama.

I appears that Mr. Clintons assestment to Gov Richardson just might have been half right. At least Mr. Obama gets the chance to run against Mr. McCain for the office of the President, while Mrs. Clinton is left to ponder where and how her campaign went wrong.

It appears that Mr. Clinton might not have been the sole reason for Mrs. Clinton's defeat at the hands of Mr. Obama.

I feel sorry for Mr. Clinton not only is he having a COW over this whole ordeal (calling a person a scumbag & attacking the media) but now the poor devil will have to listen to Mrs. Clinton's excuses on why she lost a 30 point lead.

In the words of the GREAT Roberto Duran in one of his fights with Sugar Ray Leonard - "No Mas"

I guess Mr. Clinton was only half right in his assertion to Gov Richardson.

Mr Clinton told Richardson that Obama couldn't beat McCain. He hasn't been proven half-right or half-wrong. We'll all know in November.

Moreover, I gave them statutes that were not good and rules by which they could not have life, and I defiled them through their very gifts in their offering up all their firstborn, that I might devastate them. I did it that they might know that I am the Lord.

While that may true Mrs. Clinton will not be running for president as it stands now or will she? An article by the GREAT Dick Morris paints an interesting situation.

Dick Morris. com - HILLARY CIRCLES SLOWLY OVERHEAD

HILLARY CIRCLES SLOWLY OVERHEAD at DickMorris.com

Excerpts from the article

Hillary’s suspension of her campaign, and her omission of any release of her delegates, makes her a factor for Obama to consider for the next three months until the Democratic nomination is officially and finally his. Absent an actual statement to her delegates urging them to vote for Obama on the first ballot, Hillary’s candidacy cannot be said to have ended.

Rather, the former First Lady will be slowly circling overhead during June, July, and August waiting for Obama to make a mistake or stumble. Throughout the next three months, there will always be the possibility that he errs so badly that Hillary gets back into the race. Should another pastor rear his head or if one of the mythical tapes that are said to be about to emerge does, in fact, exist, Obama cannot rest secure in the nomination as long as Hillary is overhead, waiting.

End of excerpt.

The picture that has been painted by Mr. Morris reminds me of when there is animal that is about to bite the big one and the buzzards are circling overhead.

God Bless Us All

The Hill - McAuliffe: Bill Clinton is ‘ready to go’ for Obama

TheHill.com - McAuliffe: Bill Clinton is ‘ready to go’ for Obama

Excerpts from the article

Terry McAuliffe, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-N.Y.) campaign manager and a friend of Bill Clinton's, said the former president is ready to work “24/7” to make sure Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will be the next occupant of the White House.

“Listen, nobody likes to lose. But you know what? We’ve all moved on,” McAuliffe said on MSNBC. “Hillary has said we've got to go forward. So he [Bill Clinton] is ready to go. He will, as I say, he will go out every single day in the fall campaign, if that’s what they require him to do.”

There have been questions raised regarding whether the relationship between Bill Clinton and Obama is strained, but McAuliffe noted that “people who say that don’t know Bill Clinton.”

End of excerpts.

I wonder if Mr. Clinton still beleives that Mr. Obama can not win in November?

It will be interesting to see which candidate wins Mr. McCain = pro war or Mr. Obama = ending the war?

Or will the GREAT Bob Barr slip in to win the election?

God Bless Us All

If oil and gas prices keep rising, that will likely be the only major campaign issue, and virtually all independents and moderates may gravitate to the philosophy they think has the best chances to stop the bleeding.

How much are we hearing about immigration and health care, or Social Security for that matter, now as compared to a few months ago? People say they care about these, and I guess they do, but right now they care about inflation and gas prices even more, I think.
