And that could actually be a good thing. Perhaps what this country needs. We might see some real "change" then!

I was responding to Dex's comment that we absolutely do not need a naif in the White House.

Change isn't always better; sometimes it's just different. An illustrative example: "Out of the frying pan and into the fire."

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune endorsed Obama (I can't find the associated editorial online). This was a shock since the paper leans so far to the Right that it practically tumbles over, despite being owned by the NYT. In local races, it endorsed about 95% Republican.

What to conclude? McBush / Palin is an extraordinarily unattractive ticket to many folks who normally buy comforting right-wing ideology largely unquestioned. It may be that the gap between what right-wing politicians say they are going to do (e.g. a smaller, more efficient, less obtrusive gov't) and what they have actually done (a stunning growth in Federal power and influence) has grown too large to ignore. That's why I now call myself a Libertarian who happens to be leaning Left this time around.

Bryan/College Station Eagle - Barack Obama is the better choice for president

The Bryan-College Station Eagle haven't endorsed a Dem in 50 years. Texas A&M is located in College Station and has one of the most conservative student bodies in the country. Bryan is the neighboring town.

Can we re-name the thread "List of latecomers with no true convictions who want to assure their access and meal ticket as camp followers of the new Obama Administration for the next four years" -- or would that be too wordy?

At what juncture does one begin to point and laugh? I'm starting right now.

This is not an endorsement but it speaks well of Lieberman, IMO, because no matter who wins, our country needs to unify.
Lieberman Offers Faint Praise Of Obama
Quote:
Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, one of John McCain's closest political allies, said Friday he does not believe that Barack Obama is unprepared to be president.

"I'm saying he is less prepared than McCain," Lieberman said.

But what about Sarah Palin?

Is she ready?

"If, God forbid, an accident occurs or something of that kind?" Lieberman said. "Um, she'll be ready. You know, she's had executive experience. She's smart and she will have had on-the-job training.

Can you honestly believe that McCain was putting country first when
he selected the person who would take his place if he (a 70+yo
cancer survivor) died in offfice ? It was clearly a decision of
political expediency.

I think Gen. Colin Powell has some understanding of America's place
in a dangerous world, and he just endorsed Obama. (Please don't
tell us Powell's endorsement was racially-motivated).

During his decades of service to his country John McCain has given us all ample evidence of his courage, his character and his leadership.
True. Unfortunately, during this campaign, with some of the BS he has
pulled, he has shown that maybe his character can't quite stand up to
the ambition of being President.

Speaking of endorsements, it's quite fascinating to look at the NY Times'
endorsements over the years (starting with Lincoln):

New York Times Endorsements Through the Ages - Interactive Graphic - NYTimes.com

A few of the things that jumped out at me:

1. They endorsed FDR for his 1st, 2nd, and 4th terms, but not his third.
2. They endorsed Eisenhower twice over the pointy-headed intellectual
Adlai Stevenson.
3. They've endorsed the Democrat ever since Ike - no surprise there.

Please don't point to the tar brush unless you've got a reason

So many people who once thought Powell was an incompetent idiot for telling the UN that Iraq had WMD now apparently believe his judgement is unimpeachable. And that his oh-so-late endorsement of Obama is based on something more than craven self-interest. Maybe it is, but the circumstances are a little suspicious.

If Powell's endorsement is race-based so is every white person's endorsement of McCain. You can't have it both ways.

I never called Powell incompetent or an idiot. He was simply a good
soldier, loyal to a man (Bush) who deserves nothing, much less the
loyalty of good men and women like our military.

The Economist, who enthusiastically endorsed the policies of Thatcher and Reagan in the 80s, has endorsed Obama for president. Criticisms of both candidates are included here:
