Forget Palin and Obama, shouldn't we really be concerned about the new Congress?

I see the approval percentages quoted all the time about a 20% approval rating for the current congress. Wouldn't a reasonable sane conclusion be that come the next election, we will throw the bums out in the current legislature, and install replacements. Given the current majority of Dems, shouldn't that mean an new overwhelming majority for the GOP next session. Since these are the folks that propose and enact bills, doesn't that mean four or more years of GOP led congress, irrespective of who the next President is?
Shouldn't that be the topic of concern on the Soap Box, or is it that Palin provides more star material.

One huge issue, in my state at least, is the effectiveness of state legislators in gerrymandering the congressional districts to create "safe" republican or "safe" democratic districts.

I live in a district where my preferences are in the minority. As a consequence, I don't think I have have voted for a winning congressional candidate for at least 20 years. 65-35 is the typical outcome, regardless of whether the majority party is running an incumbent or a newcomer.

But I'll keep trying.

I was referring to the national impact of new GOP led legislation, rather then the impact of approval/disapproval by the executive branch, as having a broader implication. I suspect that this board's membership will not likely be large enough to impact any particular district, IMHO.

Won't happen......... Don't know how the Congressional elections will go in November, but I suspect the Dems will keep their majority. Although it may be harder to campaign on the same platform as 2006 (we'll get you out of Iraq, and lower the price of gasoline)..........

I agree with your sentiment, whitestick. But the reality is that we are trapped by a duopoly. I don't see us breaking out of this anytime soon. sigh....
