Dropped to $3.899/gal here then back up to $4.099/gal, Chicago burbs. Chicago about 30¢/gal higher...

In West Texas the price is $3.95 a gallon.
Temperature is about 81 degrees right now earlier it was 98+ - electricity bill will go through the roof.
Instead of suing OPEC - maybe Mr. Bush should extend an olive branch of peace to Mr. Hugo Chavez at least he would not have to kiss him on the cheek and hold hands with him. Oh, I nearly forgot he might save some American taxpayers $$$$ on jet fuel by going to South America instead of the Middle East.

If your car will take regular, I would switch (if it won't, I would switch cars!).

The smart car might be a nice alternate

But it's MPG is about the same as that of our much roomier, five passenger, six-year-old Echo.

Yeah, that's what I find somewhat disgusting about the car companies...in the past we've had cars that had better gas mileage with more space. What happened since then? Was it that Americans crave more power and lower gas mileage or that the auto companies in their infinite wisdom decided that those cars wouldn't sell in the US anymore. Probably both. Hopefully all that will change in the next few years and car makers will start offering cars with an option of having a smaller engine than what comes in the standard model, so that people that don't care if they're car goes from 0 to 60 in 8 seconds can actually buy a car where the most important thing to them is gas mileage.

Cars have gotten a lot heavier is what's happened. All the safety systems such as ABS, crash protection, airbags, etc. Check out the weight of an old Honda CRX HF compared to the lightest Honda Civic today.

Ughhh, 8 seconds? Can I just shoot myself now?
The truth is that the fuel efficient models didn't go away. Toyota, Honda, GM, etc have always offered 4 cyl models of their main line sedans. Also, there has been a size creep among models. The current Honda Civic is the size of the original Accord.

Exactly...at some point in the near future, it won't be so un-cool to have a car that's smaller than your neighbor's car. Hopefully the "bigger is better" attitude will be fast approaching an end. Also, it would be nice if the car companies offered the same small engine options as what is offered in Asia and Europe. They almost never offer the same small engines as an option in the US.

The main reason for that is the E.P.A.............

$3.89 at most stations here, yesterday. But, $3.93 in St. Bernard Parish, southeast of New Orleans.
These prices are just nuts! I'm glad I don't use much gas.

But is there really a shortage? Supply and demand?? Something smells rotten in the fuel patch.

It's remarkable how much we like to discuss this, and how much the media covers it. The nightly news seems to have a "pain at the pump" segment every night, and it hasn't gotten old yet.

NBC News - As gas prices soar, thieves grow more brazen
It’s not just drive-offs — crooks targeting individual cars with siphons, drills
As gas prices soar, thieves grow brazen - Oil & energy - MSNBC.com
Excerpts from the article
Bobby Lee Julien, who’s driven a fuel tanker for 27 years, was near the end of his route. It was 3 a.m. when he pulled up at a stop sign off State Highway 225 in Houston.
It took only a few seconds for the masked man to rip open the passenger door, jump in and point a gun at Julien, 52.
“I begged him not to shoot me,” Julien said. “I feared for my life. The whole time he had a gun pointed at me.”
End of excerpts.
Things are really getting bad when a poor devil can not make an honest living.
Let's hope that none of these poor devils get shot or killed over the fuel in their trucks
If things get worse the oil companies may have to hire Blackwater to protect their employees and cargo.
God Bless Us All
