I could just imagine driving 55 on the interstate...probably get hit...it is remarkable how much gas you save, though going 55......as far as gas prices, I am not too concerned since people will make more fuel efficient choices...during one of the recent run ups, people even made some short term choices to relieve demand and long term they will replace vehicles with more fuel efficient choices...I know several folks with V8 engines that simply got a used car for trips and parked the SUV..

One Sunday doughnut shop guy(independant owner operator) has parked his big rig - maybe FIRE, maybe just extended leave of absence until the numbers get right.

Canary in the coal mine - or maybe just about time to ER.

We'll see.

heh heh heh - . Sooo now he is several days a week doughnut/coffee wise instead of just one.

It may depend on the vehicle. With our 02 Echo, 65 vs 55 is 39 MPG vs 44 MPG. With our 99 Tacoma truck, it gets about 21 MPG at both speeds.

Ouch, you mean I'm going to have to start paying $35-40 for a tank of gas for my thirsty little civic?!?!? I may have to cut back my auto-investments a bit to accomodate that.

There seems to be a lot of 'food riot' news blurbs - re the third world which are layed at the high price of oil interactions - transport, fertilizer, food crops vs ethanol, etc.

Hmmm - I suppose starving or dead 'might' be considered by some as more important than my bitching about my 23mpg SUV.

heh heh heh - the falling $ and crop subsidies are interacted in there too.

The bus here in PV has increased to 55 cents. It was only 10 cents in 1996...

Taxi fares have just gone up 25% making the bus even more attractive.

You don't really need a car in europe for day to day living. and when they do drive it has been a small gasoline or diesel vehicle that gets over 40 mpg. Not the idiotic full size pickup or dumb suburban, or better yet a Hummer!
Geographically, that's not possible. ALL of Europe takes up little more space than JUST the MIDWEST does. If you drive 300 miles in Europe, you could be 2-3 countries away, in the US, it's across the state.

Those little Priuses are SO CUTE... I have to keep telling myself that fuel economy is no excuse for me to buy one, since I don't have to drive very far or use much gas. So personally, I'd replace your sentence with,

"With the high gas prices and the incredibly supercharged "cute factor" motivating buyers, ..."

When I was working Ford came out with a Hybrid, the Escape.

I got a good laugh when we were notified by Ford that the dealer had to buy a special tool. It was a wooden stick that could be used to push a mechanic off of the car in case of electrocution.

That's what Frank tells me, too, so I will probably never buy one. (sigh) Still cute!

$54 / 3.69/gallon = 14.6 gallons. I would guess one which has a gas tank of 15 gallons or more which is most cars.
