She sounds a lot like Sarah Palin, political views aside........

Ross Perot is a spoiler and malcontent who couldn't get anywhere in politics and is jealous of anyone who could.

The self centered people in the Vietnam era stayed home and "made love, not war". McCain flew low level bombing missions, was shot down, captured and tortured.

How do we as expert judges know that this earlier marriage had a chance in Hell after all they had both been through?

The nasty and ill informed judgmentalism on this board blows me away. When I think I could even survive what McCain did, maybe I would say something. But so far all can think is he is quite a brave man.

You may notice that I was not commenting on the woman's movement view of your Grandmother, but only of Sarah Palin.

I think your grandmother was fabulous!

Let's try to tone down the nasty comments.

FD - you never heard of thinkprogress.org?

That's the site with the links to a petition to BAN a made-for-TV movie ( I linked to this a while back). No bias there, nope, no way.

And if she were alive today you would find her quite remarkable and maybe a bit intimidating. She had piercing blue eyes that flashed when she was angry about something. Grandma was educated and well read which was unusual for a "farm wife". She taught school and helped with voter registration with a focus on encouraging women to vote. When she was young, many women didn't vote or just voted for who their husbands told them to support. Grandma helped change all that. I doubt she would care much for Palin - she was a democrat all the way - but would be happy to see a woman considered for an important position in our government.

Yes, she did flip-flop on the Bridge To Nowhere. She took the money anyway. So much for fighting waste.

The editorial also fails to include her requested earmarks, or the list she presented to Senator Stevens (now under corruption charges) as both Mayor and Governor.

I am sure that I would. I know also that I would want to meet her and would listen intently to anything she might say. She could certainly speak with authority of many areas of life.

FD, stop it with the "source" bit.. I noted that 'real' sources to all the various aggregated statements were in the link.

As for the WSJ ..mm, yeh.. unbiased.

just for fun:
Bush Has a Good Economic Record - WSJ.com

I highly recommend "Going to Extremes' by Joel McGinnnis- talks a lot about the desolation and isolation in parts of Alaska- written about 30 years ago before the internet started connecting these folks to the outside world in real time. A lot has changed, but winters are still long and hard.

ladelfina, seriously, where is the bias in that article? I know you cringe at the title and the source, but there are some straightforward facts there, that I could not dispute w/o more research.

OTOH, a *do* think there was considerable spin in the WSJ article that FD linked to on Palin/Obama.

Yes, Palin Did Stop That Bridge - WSJ.com

I need to go get some work done around the house, I'll try to elaborate later. But quickly, comparing % to absolute #'s, comparing savings to waste rather than savings-to-savings and waste-to-waste....

Everything needs to be scrutinized, no matter the source.

But the case is closed. It's all the Democrats' fault for picking on her. She said "thanks but no thanks for the bridge to nowhere" and that's all you or I need to know about the subject.

BTW, she didn't flip-flop because she isn't a Democrat. Only Democrats flip-flop. Her position evolved. Do get the terminology clear, I beg.

Enough said on this topic Ha. I know you didn't mean to be disrespectful. You just gotta know my Kansas grandma taught me to be kinda feisty. I think you would really have liked her and been amazed at the stories she told about the old days in Kansas. She went through the dust bowl and told me about how she would hang damp sheets up at the doors and windows to keep the dust out. She also remembered when Bonnie and Clyde came through town and the great depression. Grandma never trusted banks much and kept a lot of her cash in a mayonnaise jar in her deep freezer – how’s that for a financial plan? Amazing woman.

My grandparents homesteaded in Eastern Montana. I found thier land grant on the web, signed by Calvin Coolidge. Lived in a two-room tarpaper shack, but they were considered rich by the neighbors because they had a tractor. It got so cold in the winter up there that they nailed old newspapers on the walls for insulation. My grandmother used to joke that after the third winter the house got too small, so they sold out and moved back to KS. I inherited all the pictures and journals; no one else in the family took any real interest in that part of their lives. Listening to her tell her frontier stories as a kid growing up is what led me to buy the ranch in Wyoming.

They were tough, independent, stubborn people, and some of what they lived through is nothing short of amazing.

I get such a kick out all the women hating Sarah. She is exactly what the feminists should be immensely proud of. Modest background, ordinary husband, powerful executive job, entirely self made, mother of 5, beautiful-exactly what is the problem? Oh wait, I think I know. BEAUTIFUL. And REPUBLICAN.

Hey, Sisterhood has its limits, right? Got to draw the line somewhere.

We'll see. What happens in the voting booth stays in the voting booth...
