Ah, yes, another single-issue voter.

A pity.

Amazing all the strong opinions about someone most of us never heard of until earlier today. I listened to her brief acceptance speech, but I think I'll "get to know her" before I categorize, criticize or praise her. Crazy I know...

As does Jimmy Carter as well as most other politicians, and probably 90% of the English-speaking people.

I notice you didn't bother to point out that Nancy Pelosi said "natural gas is clean, unlike fossil fuels". Do conceptual mistakes disappoint you, or just grammatical ones?

Obviously a pure political move, as was Biden. But I'm interested in seeing how two issues in particular play out: first, whether the "not ready to lead" theme will ring a little hollow now with a VP candidate who clearly has no federal experience in the big leagues.

Second, McCain could have made some inroads into disillusioned Hillary supporters if he had selected a woman more conspicuous, more moderate, and with more credible bona fides. It is hard to imagine even the most adamant Hillary supporters who would react so strongly that they would cross over because of this candidate.

She wants the polar bear off the endangered species list and does not believe global warming is caused by humans. She apparently supported the bridge to nowhere, to get the earmark, according to CNBC, as recently as two years ago. Apparently now she is saying that she did not support that project. She supports ANWR drilling. She has no recorded positions on many issues. Sarah Palin on the Issues

I have no problem with her being a "super mom," no problem with the guns, no problem with the outdoorsy stuff, and I can live with the fact that McCain both married a beauty queen and selected one as his running mate, but Palin isn't going to get the Hillary supporters. That was not the point. The point is to have someone acceptable to the religious right and to get McCain's reputation as a maverick back. We are the agents of change! Not you!

Fun to watch and talk about though, guessing from the fact that at the moment I am typing this 25 people are looking at this thread.

Let's see...for the Iraq war...10's of thousands of innocent Iraqi's killed...voted for them. I guess your maker will have to take away that crown.

Just another example of the right believing that they are holier than thou.

Awfully quick decision making on McCain's part. He first met Palin @ a governors' conference in February, 2008. Then just last week had his second face to face with her in AZ & made his decision. Doesn't quite square with the reports that he wants a "comfort level" with & loyalty from those in his inner circle. I think she's merely a figurehead for him.

I can't imagine the reality shock she'll be going through in the next 2 months, with Secret Service all but following her into a bathroom stall. Then the press/media crawling all over every single minute detail of her life, history, family, children, and every word that comes out of her mouth. Yikes, what was this gal from the frozen tundra thinking?

Do you have any idea how many babys have been killed since Rpe v Wade. It is in the millions. Second Iraq hit NY first. I believe in an eye for an eye. Also when I read the Book I don't think you were mentioned as the one decideing who got one or even the one handing them out. ha ha

I don't know if this counts as "dirty linen".. but it sure doesn't show much economic sense:

Daily Kos: Sarah Palin and Wasilla Sports Complex land deal
with links to AK papers about a $15 million "sports complex" and $1.7 million land boondoggle in Wasilla. A town of 6000 people.. sheesh.

I live in a town of 5000 people and the annual budget of the whole town is probably less than just the lawyers' fees here.

FIRE'd@51: I think the name thing bothers me most. There was a state senator of Hawaiian background when I was growing up; his last name was Kumekawa. My conservative and fairly racist dad used to call him "Kookumwawa" on purpose. I knew his kid in school and they were really nice people. I think it gives people a twisted sense of power when they don't give a crap about other people's names.. witness Bush giving everyone a nickname, even rude demeaning ones. It's not cute; it's the reflection of something deeply wrong with him that he needs to give people HIS names and discounts their own. That's my Lucy van Pelt diagnosis.

McCain and Bush are highly paid to interact with both domestic and foreign people on our behalf and they should LEARN THEIR NAMES and their countries' names. I don't personally care if Bush calls Rove "turd blossom".. but I hope he soon leaves off calling Putin "pooty-poot".

Zero-tolerance abortion ban with no exceptions for life of the mother would, I imagine, be a deal-breaker for 99% of women. I'm happy kowski will get a crown out of the deal, though, if I'm dead. That would almost make it worthwhile.

ladelfina--Linking to an obviously left wing site doesn't really reveal anything unexpected. Link to a more centered reference and your point would have some meaning.

Call me crazy, but I think if I were picking someone I'd like to see qualities that would appeal to the other 60%, especially when a rather vocal constituency is fairly squarely in that percentage.

Regardless, my candidate is still better than all of the other candidates

I've had pollsters call 4 times in the last three weeks.

The questions are:

1. How closely have you been following the presidential race?
"Not at all"

2. Well, as you're probably aware, the two candidates for president are Obama and McCain. If you were to vote today, who would you be voting for?
"Actually, those are just the Democratic and Republican candidates. At this point, I'm probably voting for Bob Barr"

Bob Barr?

"Yes"

Thank you for your time.
