So you think you want CHANGE?
So you think you want CHANGE? Remember the election in 2006? Consider the following… Almost two years ago: 1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high 2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon 3) The unemployment rate was 4.5% Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen: 1) Consumer confidence plummet 2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.85 a gallon and it is still going up 3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase) 4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses) 5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars 6) 2% of American homes are in foreclosure. Americans voted for change in 2006 and we got it! Remember, its Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him. Taxes... Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, these statistics are enlightening and amazing. Go to www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html to verify Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008 Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500 Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500 Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000 Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250 Both democratic candidates have stated they will return to the higher tax rates |

About as useful as this other worn-out Internet babble:
Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road? BARACK OBAMA: The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a CHANGE! The chicken wanted CHANGE! JOHN MC CAIN: My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road. HILLARY CLINTON: When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure — right from Day One! — that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn’t about me……. DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won’t realize that he must first deal with the problem on ‘THIS’ side of the road before it goes after the problem on the ‘OTHER SIDE’ of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he’s acting by not taking on his ‘CURRENT’ problems before adding ‘NEW’ problems. OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I’m going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens. GEORGE W. BUSH: We don’t really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here. COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road… ANDERSON COOPER - CNN: We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road. JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken’s intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it. NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because he’s GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks. PAT BUCHANAN: To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American. MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer’s Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information. DR SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I’ve not been told. GRANDPA: In my day we didn’t ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough. BARBARA WALTERS: Isn’t that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart-warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life-long dream of crossing the road. ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road. JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace. BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2009, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your check book. Internet Explorer is an integral part of the Chicken. This new platform is much more stable and will never cra………… Reboot. ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken? BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken? COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one? DICK CHENEY: Where’s my gun? AL SHARPTON: Why are all the chickens white? We need some black chickens. |

Too little, too late. The Republican Congress was a Bush rubber stamp but the bigger problem was the Bush/Cheney administration itself. You idiots voted them back in and reaped what you sowed. (Actually, based on the fraud in Ohio you probably didn't really vote them back in - you stole the election for a second time).

Ahh, those pesky dems and forcing people to speculate in the housing bubble and then forcing them to move money to speculate in the oil bubble after that. Silly me, I thought market fundamentals drove both of those things.
Oh, wait, you're the one that's decided China was the reason housing prices shot up so fast as to put a house out of reach of working Merkins.

I'm amazed anyone could say that the dems have been effective enough to have any results, good or bad

I need to do some due diligence on Obama. Other than being a good speaker, what legislation has he championed that I should know about??
As a moderate Republican, I could be swayed toward Obama if he makes more sense than McCain, but I would need some hard facts to do so. I am NOT being facetious, I just want to know. So, "learn me'........ ![]()

FD, I am not excessively wild about either Obama or Clinton (although I went for the former in the primary). Once again, this election for me is about who is less off-putting. A 70+ YO who has spent decades in the Senate and seems hell-bent on prolonging US involvement in Iraq indefinitely and who has little apparent clue about the economy is one step away from Dick! Cheney on my puke-o-meter. It almost doesn't matter who the alternative is, although I would have love to see Chris Dodd or Bll Richarson get the nod instead.

I would not underestimate McCain, he may not be an economic genius but he is an "insider" and well-connected to folks who matter in Washington............

More interestingly, who does McCain pick as Veep? Does he try to court the conservative wing of his party or does he reach out to moderates and conservative Democrats?

His only choice is to reach out to moderates like me. McCain himself is "somewhat" of a moderate, so it would make sense to get someone kinda like him, but younger............
