This is a broad definition. A 4th type is what Khan mentions, although it was not included since it has a different implication.

The point is that most prostitutes in the United States are middle class women who are out to make a quick buck. They are independent businesswomen. They advertise themselves as escorts, entertainers, and massage therapists in phone books and on the web. They don't walk the streets.

Personally, I've known only one prostitute in my life (I've probably been acquainted with more without knowing what they do). This woman owned an upscale home in the Oakland-Berkeley hills. She drove a Lexus. She regularly went to the gym. She was intelligent. She was very much an average 30-year old woman (the "girl next door"). This is typical.

Most prostitutes are not street walkers controlled by pimps nor are they women subject to human trafficking. This may make for a good show on the Lifetime channel but it is not the norm. This doesn't mean that people can't be exploited in this way but the numbers are relatively small. When the World Cup was held in Germany in 2006, advocates claimed that 40,000 women would be trafficked into the country as prostitutes. Ironically, one group of people who were most concerned about this were German prostitutes. They didn't want "illegals" coming into the country and taking away their clients. But their fears were unfounded. In reality, German police encountered only a few cases of forced prostitution (I believe 5).

Back to Khan's comment. Women sell their body's for sex all the time. Most often, it is done in the boundaries of a relationship, including marriage. You're not going to tell me that a 25 year-old woman is with a 70-year old man because "she loves him," and it is just a coincidence that he is a multimillionaire. This is simply a legal form of prostitution.

Mentally competent adults have a right to make their own decisions even if others don't approve of their actions.

Very well said. Split some woman's wood and she is pretty likely to look upon some beddy-bye with you more favorably. If not, no more wood.

And really, why not? The guys likes this role, it saves the woman from doing onerous or dangerous work, it is a relatively low bs arrangement, and if she doesn't like him a at least a little she can always get someone else to split wood for her.

Ha

Well, I think I'm prostituting myself every day just to keep food on the table and health insurance for my sick wife.

I hate my job but but I don't really have much of a choice.

Ha
It saves time to not have to pretend to build 'a relationship' and profess to be 'in love'.
