- In my 25th year in a job that I loved, but looking forward to retiring in the Spring of 2010. I must admit that the closer I get to that magical date, the more anxiety I experience. Financially, I think I and my dependents will be fine. I'm more concerned about the impact retirement will have on my overall well-being. I plan to continue to wake up at the same time each morning, but instead of going to work for 8 or more hours, go to the gym or pool for 2 hours, and then take care of errands and personal business. I am fortunate to have lifetime health benefits with my pension, so it would not be a problem to take a low stress p.t. job if I get bored, but I still am nervous as well as excited about my approaching ER.
