- Have been reading this site for a few months now, but just now joining as I now plan to retire on 30 June 2014. Married, former Air Force officer, blessed beyond my wildest imagination. Grew up poor on a small dairy farm but used AF education opportunities to advance from enlisted to mid-level officer before retiring after 21 years at 40 years old. With pensions, 450K in 401K and 100K in bank for emergencies and SS at 62, all of the calculators give me 80-90K after tax income. Expenses are currently about 60K but that includes payments on two new cars, so lots of margin for reduction. Oh, also includes mortgage payment that just started at 2.875%.
