Thanks for the PM and info about Janesville. It will be a big adjustment for us, we have lived in the south forever. My wife's from Texas, and I'm originally from NC. I have two grown daughters who will be staying here in Louisiana, and our son, who is 18 will be coming with us to WI. I'll be working at the Amtec plant there in Janesville, as the Quality Assurance person. This is also going to be a big change from the kind of work I've done most of my life. I currently work as a civilian employee of the Air Force, maintaining aircraft weapons systems. I mentioned in my post that I was going to be joining the Air National Guard unit in Madison. As of today, after more thought, I'm now considering retiring from the military, and just concentrating on everything else. I've been either active duty or reserves for a total of 31 years, so I guess there'd be no shame in reclaiming my weekends! I'm looking forward to getting to Janesville, and should be arriving on or near Sept. 4th. However, we'll only be there about 3 weeks and then will have to drive right back to Louisiana (933 miles) for my oldest daughter's wedding! I couldn't get my new employer to wait any longer to have me report, but they did agree to let me leave again for a week lol! I've been checking out the housing situation on line, looking to see what local restaurants there were etc. Also, we're going to be staying somewhere (presumably a hotel) for as much as 60 days, so we need a place that's roomy and preferably a kitchen. The only thing like that I could find is way up in Madison, at a Residence Inn. I'd rather not have to drive that far, but it may be the case. No Janesville hotels I could find had anything bigger than a standard suite, basically a bedroom & separate living area with a sofa-sleeper, and no kitchen. So....Madison may be home for a few weeks. We'll be taking our time while we're in the hotel, checking out various parts of the area, neighborhoods etc. If you can make any reccomendations of areas to consider, parts of town to avoid etc. I'd sure appreciate that. Anything you can think of would be great, whether it's places to live, visit, eat etc. Thanks again for the PM, see you in Janesville!
