If you're planning to travel coach on Northwest, make sure you bring something to munch on ...

From a NY Times story:
"This week, Northwest elminated another "frill" -- the half-ounce bag of braided pretzel sticks it hands out to passengers. Even though the cost works out to pennies a bag, the airline, which carried 40 million passengers worldwide last year, calcuates it will save $2 million a year."

Does not surprise me. That fat-free half ounce bag is just a teaser. Takes about 10 of these bags to give the effect of the peanuts (but I guess peanuts are fatty nonos nowadays). And of course I am very thirsty after all those salty fat-free sticks and need another couple of drinks. Are they cutting out the drinks too?

One time I was on a transatlantic flight with this airline and requested the full can of soda instead of the tiny cup with 20 ice cubes and one sip of fluid. The flight attendant reprimanded me telling me I should be more 'considerate' because there were other people that she had to serve with that same can. Mmmm, I wonder whether she could see what I paid for the seat and gave me matching service.

According to the story, they're keeping the drinks for now ...

We flew with them in March ... and while the pretzels were good, you're right .. it's just a teaser.  (we finished up with the nutrition bars I brought along )  DH and I may have to revert to an old habit -- stopping at a fast food joint and getting burgers to go.  Maybe we can eat them while we're waiting to get through security :D

It used to be that cigarett smoke waffet through the cabin; now it is the smell of greasy burgers and fries. It will be great when cell phones will be permitted to be used during flights.

Yeah, then you can call out for Chinese............. :D

Almost always fly early or mid-morning, and leave home extra early in case I run into the traffic jam from hell; if all goes well, I have time for some McD or some such, to fill up prior to the bag o' fluff, er, uh, I mean pretzels.
