A good reason to LBYM and not buy expensive shoes

I would have hired a mongoose to kill the cobra and then stolen the shoes. Haven't those people at Harrod's ever read Rikki Tikki Tavi.
 
62,000 pounds? No way! But while working I did spend hundreds and hundreds of $$$ on shoes, boots and handbags -- and don't regret a single purchase! Ooooh, every pair and every bag tells a story...like the black croc pumps I bought in NY and wore to make my first ever presentation to MegaCorp's Board of Directors. (I know those shoes made me feel more confident!) Or the Louis Vuitton Alma handbag I treated myself to with my first "real" bonus ---don't worry, the rest went into savings!
Funny thing now, this summer I essentially lived in one pair of sandals! Talk about your changing priorities.....:)
 
Wow! $120,000 for a pair of shoes is really out of my league.

However, I find that spending $100-$120 for a good pair of shoes that make my feet feel good is one of the best things for me to spend money on. When my feet are comfortable, I'm happy and it shows. :)
 
$100 for shoes doesn't seem excessive in fact it seems cheap for comfort. However, when woman spend $500+ for uncomfortable looking shoes I really start to think they are from another planet and it ain't Venus.

Strange coincidence I just say "Happy Feet" last night.
 
I have never in my life bought a pair of shoes.

Growing up mom bought em.

Marines issued me boots

I wore my tennis shoes from high school after the marine corps, kept them taped up with duct tape (cannot see my feet in a kitchen anyway)

Finally my father in law took me out, and forced me to pick out a pair of shoes which he bought, he got me 2 identical pairs, which 5 years later I am still wearing pair 1.

Funny thing too, when my FIL passed away, he left his shoes to me lol. So now I have shoes my size to last a lifetime!

No pricey shoes for me, the $80 I spent on my tennis is the max and I thought that was pretty outrageous. I share some of my shoes with DH, we wear the same size! No heels, I promise!
 
I will buy what fits. Problem is, I have few options. As a result, I HATE shoe shopping (I hate most shopping, but shoes, bras and bathing suits are in the same super yuck category).

My feet are small, since pregancy hard to fit, and easily achy. For athletic shoes, I shop at a store owned and managed by someone who actually knows feet and how to fit them. I will spend on these shoes with only minor gasps - the last pair was $90.

For w*rk shoes, very few stores carry my size and there are few styles. Choices generally are: a black pump, or a black pump, or if I am very lucky a brown or navy pump. I rarely find sales or discounts. So, I buy em when I see em, and try to keep them forever, but we are still talking only $30-$60 a pair.

whoa, you actually might beat out my dad for wearing shoes out! But have you ever worn them on the wrong feet?

My dad does that cuz he wears out the outside of the back heel first...so he'll switch to the other side to wear them out even!!!:rolleyes:

i usually buy him shoes every year or two for bday or something...not sure the last time he bought himself a pair, w/ the exception of golf shoes of course!
 
Gee, having a cobra in the display would make it real hard for robbers -- unless they happened to have, say, a stick handy.

Haha, no I have never tried the wrong feet thing, not sure I could handle that either as you would take some serious punishment to the feet.
 
I'm female, but I never did get the whole shoe thing. I would find shoes that I liked, and buy them in black, blue and navy. I replaced them only when they wore out. Once upon a time, this meant pumps, but - thank goodness for "business casual" - now it's flats. I also believe in spending a bit more for comfort. For me, only 2 words: Easy Spirit.

Running shoes - that's a whole other thing!!

Your dad might want to invest in a pair of good orthotics to correct his gait -- or get new heels on his shoes. Can't imagine that wearing shoes on the wrong feet would be comfortable...but I've never tried it, so who knows??
 
can he fix that problem? he's a bit bow legged, which i think causes the wearing...now he sometimes puts some extra sole things on the outside (even on tennis shoes) to help slow it down...but yes, as he gets older he'll need to have very proper shoes!
 
Oh my yes!
Shoe inserts (orthotics) correct abnormal foot motion and alignment. They can make foot motion more efficient and correct structural imbalances. Orthotics can relieve discomfort and reduce the risk of foot injury. Unfortunately I was born with a pair of really bad feet...and went through all kinds of pain and surgeries before I essentially gave up thinking I had to just live with it. Finally I was referred to a orthopedist who sent me to a foot specialist where I was fitted with orthotics that have changed my life! Note, these aren't the inexpensive Dr. Scholl-type insoles...mine cost more than $200 -- but are worth every penny!

my mom has those custom ones for her arthritic knees...doubt my dad will get them until/when he is told to by a doc, if/when he sees one! i don't think he's had trouble/pain w/ his knees/feet yet.

on another note...it's not just the cost of the shoes - but how many you buy! :D

i've taken to buying less, but more expensive and maintaining them...i feel justified now that i can keep them for several years...>:D comfort is not always correlated w/ cost, but i have found a few makers who make shoes that fit my feet well...:duh:

Exactly, that seemed pretty silly. If I managed to get the top off that box, all i'd need is a common broom to lift that snake out with and set him free.

Hope the snake doesn't relieve himself on those shoes.
