excerpt...next week, i will attend a holiday party organized by, but not located at, my former w*rkplace. i am going as a guest...i shall conduct myself in a ladylike manner...i shall not smirk longer than 20 seconds...i shall be dressed to the nines, as a woman, not an engineer trying to be taken seriously...i shall smile and wave.
oh, this is gonna be soooooooooo good. <runs palms together> >:D

I was reminded to report on my former w*rkplace party event last week. All of those who care, take a number in a very short line.

A little background review - I decided to FIRE on April 1, 2007. Some management types actually believed I was bluffing when I turned in my resignation 6 weeks prior. They had no clue I had been saving and investing for years. They thought they owned me.
The devilish side first...I dressed up very glamorous in a sparkly black tunic over black slacks, wore makeup and a nice ensemble of gold/pearl jewelry. I even poofed up the hair a bit. :D In other words, I was 180 degrees out of phase from how I dressed before FIRE.
Even my 81 year young escort was impressed. He knew exactly what I was up to. He's a rabble rouser himself.
I stayed standing up for quite a while next to my chair and just let them notice me. I saw several managers, and just grinned my grinniest grin and then slowly looked away. I put on quite a performance for the turkeys. >:D The gossip mongers were well fed for a day or two.

On the positive side...I saw many good folks who stopped, did a double take, and then laughed and came over to hug me. I was blessed to know a lot of decent people who watched me go thru personal h*ll when my LH passed suddenly. They were SO happy to see me happy again. I had sincere warm fuzzies from that.

All in all I'm glad I went. I achieved some delicious closure by looking fabulous in front of the turkeys. Freedom is intoxicating!

PS The still w*rking folks all still looked like h*ll. :p The retirees looked great.

Glad that you looked fabulous. Our MegaCorp cancelled not only this years but next.

When a woman "poofs" up her hair a little bit...that means she's serious....

Glad you had a good time and the poor darlin's have lots to talk about. :D

I've only been out 4 months, but am getting healthier by the minute.

I exchanged X-mas cards with the office and they say they miss me.

Have not been contacted; might go if asked.

What the heck! I thought they got enough TARP $'s to take care of the small stuff!!
Well, this was before the TARP money. Besides they want to lend it out to people instead of spending it on us.

I haven't been invited to my former employer's [-]Christmas[/-] Holiday party....I know I won't be either, since I gave 'em some poo before I ER'd. I'd thought about going to the bar room next door to their festivities that night, but unfortunately, that's the night I've scheduled to change the water in the toilet. :D

I did go visit all the guys in the departments that I didn't work in, last week and this. Also, delivered a nice cheese tray to guys in the street department.....not only because they really take good care of my street when it snows, but also because they're just a bunch of nice guys....and besides, I know that they'll let my former co-workers know that I gave them a cheese tray....and I gave my former co-workers squat! >:D

The street dept. superintendent asked me if the cheese tray was some sort of bribery to get my street plowed & salted.....I told him "Heck yeah!!!" He just laughed. BTW, they come down my street several time a day when it's snowing.....it's one of the best maintained streets in town....and it's way off the beaten path!!! The major thoroughfare a few blocks away is in far worse shape than my street! My street is plowed curb-to-curb, and cleaned right down to the pavement. I'm taking them a tray of cookies on Friday!!! :D

Good for you freebird! Living well is the best revenge after all ;)

Haven't heard from my old department at all in megacorp....don't really care :)
Sooo glad I don't ever have to go to one of those things and try to mingle, dance, eat, and talk to people who are just so damn fake and where every moment is a "networking event".
I did miss my christmas party at the salon due to a school final....but I will be planning next years!

Freebird flying high! I loved your report of the office visit. I bet many are now wishing they had taken the time to get to know the real you.

I knew municipal employees were willing to work for peanuts, but cheese??!?!?

for water changing duty.
We think alike. I used to treat the secretaries and admins who supported my w*rk projects and me to an annual free lunch at a restaurant of their choice for secretaries' day. We went about a week after the designated day.
I also got approval for a 2 hour lunch from their super. To heck with the flowers and plants nonsense. We ladies all went for a long lunch! :D

For the record, harumph ;), I was not invited by the former w*rkplace to this event. A dear friend invited me as his guest cuz he hates going alone. If I receive an invitation next year, I will most likely ignore it. :p But if my 81 yr young friend asks me to go again, I will. He is an "adopted uncle" to me.
