Texting Shorthand

BBAMFIC Really?

These are not common terms people are texting....im quite sure

I guess I am as old as Methuselah, because I don't text. I am too [-]cheap[/-] frugal. Doesn't it cost money to send or receive text, in excess of your 300 free minutes of phone time or whatever? I thought it did, so I haven't had texting "turned on" on my phone. No way am I going to pay for text spam.

Besides, what's the point? Instead of texting somebody I could just call the person up and talk for free, since I never use up all my minutes.

Obviously, I just don't get it! :2funny:

I don't use short hand. I just type stuff out. Im not as fast as those kids but I get the job done ;)

W2R, you are way older than Methuselah! I have an unlimited text package that is $4 a month. It is way better than calling someone, and I have lots of friends that will answer a text but never answer their phone. Same as sending emails. We'd rather "talk" this way.

But you should know that DH feels EXACTLY the same way you do. He won't even get on Facebook!

So I suspected! :2funny: :ROFLMAO:

How odd.

$4/month is $48/year, $480 in 10 years... OK, I know. It's not much, but gee. Plus, I guess I would have to check my cell phone contract to see how much it would be in addition to my present $34/month including taxes and fees.

Same as sending emails. We'd rather "talk" this way.

But then, I have e-mails already....

Oh ok!! At least I am not the only one. I got on Facebook and it freaked me out - - too much stuff, not enough time to deal with all the invites and read all the entries of my closest friends, even. I had a bad case of information overload and I had only friended 3 people! Imagine if I accepted some of the invites. So, I don't log on any more at all. Maybe when I retire I"ll have more time for it.

Boss pays my phone, so I don't worry about it--he likes being able to text me, too.
FB is awesome, but you have to manage the information so you don't get overwhelmed. Also good privacy settings are a must. I enjoy it, but it isn't for everyone.

dh2b and I have unlimited texting to each other only.
We use it for "love notes" while he is at w*rk. :smitten:
[I know, I know, we're downright  Get a room.]
This way he can say or respond to a quick hello and not get busted for too many personal calls.
When traveling by myself in the car, I will text him to let him know where I am and I'm OK.
I also use texting for his "on-the-way-home" shopping list, i.e.milk, bread, etc. For longer lists, I do the shopping.
Neither of us uses shorthand. Just brief wording. I re-use some text messages I typed in myself.

I liked the Leno joke:

A girl in Virginia spent over $4,000 for text messages last month. Her dad's reaction:

OMG WTF

International text messages do cost us on our plan but is much cheaper than phone calls and we use it for important stuff that you don't want to wait on e-mails for. Don't get many but did get one from DS in England yesterday and today re my Dad who is sick at present and she is back and forward to Dr with him. Normally we e-mail then web-cam every weekend.

For when we are on vacation in Europe with friends and relatives as we've done this last 4 or 5 years we use texting when we need to communicate.

I recently got onto twitter, but my phone can't seem to handle texting. I might try again.

You can forward to Facebook using twitter.

You can also tie in FriendFeed, Flickr and your blog (if you have one).

I haven't figured out the Flickr setup yet.

I look at it all as mental exercise.

I'm considering an iPhone

Sarah is right, you have to know your limitations and figure out what to restrict or ignore.

W2R: I have TMobile prepay and pay 5 cents a text message. I have had to use text in emergencies where the person can't get a phone call (libraries, classes, busy airports where you can't hear, etc.). I love it for the convenience it allows, so I think it's well worth my whole nickle. I'm livin' large now, baby!

! jst b/c of acorns on fb afdn i wil cx my acct

tisl they talk 2 mch & I dnt even no who they r ykwim?

I rarely use text messaging but I do pay the $5/mo for 250 texts. There are times where I don't want a 10+ minute conversation but need to tell someone something. It's also nice when in a location where you're unable to hear your phone.

Many times this year I've been stuck at work on site and it's very easy to simply text DW "Home late"

Attention
Because of acorns (?) on Facebook
As for d(?) n(?)

This is so lame. they talk too much and I don't even know who they are.
You know what I mean?

Ahhh....SNAFU and FUBAR. We were the inventors of textspeak and no one does it better!! Plus, I believe our generation came up with WTF. The classics do go way back. These young uns got nuttin' on us:cool:

I text a bit. DD (before her dept got outsourced to WV) couldn't accept personal phone calls or email at work, but was allowed to text. I suspect management hadn't caught up to technology yet.

When I do text, I spell the words out completely, and attempt to use relatively decent grammar. As noted in a previous thread, I'm pedantic. Also a tad OCD.
