What is a CMT? Don't really know after reading the US Treas site. One fund I have has 20% of its assets in CMTs. I usually understand what it holds but now I'm not sure. Would this be listed as cash in a financial report? Should a CMT return ever be a negative number?

Constant Maturity Treasury isn't an asset class, it is an interest rate. Your fund may have some bonds indexed to the rate, probably mortgage bonds, but you'd need to look at the prospectus or annual report to know for sure.
