I ESR'ed over three years ago and have found the decision to be one of the best in life. The part time work was good in helping with the transition in many ways.

I have now reached a point where I want to cut back even more. Thankfully it looks like that is definitely an option for the budget and portfolio. We have over twenty years of expense data and feel we really know our expenses and budget needs.

My part time work is our remaining business. We have sold of the others. We provide technical services to many clients and that number has grown more than I want to continue to service. I really like many of the customers but want to free up more time for family.

My questions is how to do this while making it a smooth and comfortable transition for the customers I let go. I do not have any employees and do not have someone in mind now to pass them to nor do I want to just hand someone income like this. I had someone until a few months ago as a backup to cover during our many trips but they beat me to the retiring completely and would not be interested.

I could probably find someone at my old employer that could take care of them but I would like to get some money out of this if possible. Since it is really a consultant business I do not know how or if it is possible to sell it. Any suggestions from the wise folks here would be much appreciated.

Perhaps you could merge with another similar consulting business with the intention of getting some income stream from your customers and products.

Perhaps the customers can take on some of the work themselves and only need you for the high level tasks.
