My kid turned 13 this year so I'm wondering if I'm allowed to deduct the childcare expenses for the entire year or just the months up until the child's bday? e.g. if the bday was in July 2017 am I allowed to deduct Aug/Sep childcare expenses too?

You can deduct only the cost of care provided while he/she was under 13. In other words, only up until his/her 13th birthday.

BTW, be careful about accepting tax advice from strangers on the Internet.

Agree w/ Onward. Sorry , can't provide the link since wifi not working well but google : Pub 4012 and check the table of contents for non-refundable credits (should be in Sec. G), look at the page for child care credits. At the bottom of the page should be a note that clarifies your situation.
