The last Black Friday thread I found was from 11 years ago, so I thought to start a new one.

Well, who is enjoying the commercialism of today? DW and DMIL are out amongst the Hoi Polloi. I did my purchasing (for myself) last night on Amazon while enjoying a tipple: Got a Chinese watch for $12.50 and a near-professional quality drone for about $500 off. I’ve seen similar quartz watches sell from respected Swiss and Japanese names for several hundred dollars and even a similar Timex goes for $50, so I’m feeling like a savvy shopper. If the timepiece lasts over a year, I reckon I’ll be vindicated.

What's the watch for? I think I have one in a drawer somewhere.

We do the Black Friday shopping once the stores are empty and it's a week before Christmas when prices are lowered even further.

Black Friday is definitely a great time to pick up things you've been wanting for a while. I picked up a Chromebook for $170 (Retail $300) and an Instant Pot for $70. I don't have much else I've been eyeing for, but so far, so good. I think it would be a great time to pick up a nice Smart TV or 4K TV or whatever if you've been thinking of getting one, there are so many on sale at great prices.

I wear one everyday. I find them attractive, well the ones I buy anyway. I appreciate the quality of manufacturing and the details and the purity of their purpose. They’re also more convenient than pulling out the smart phone just to check the time.

Just a data point on the 3 day sale at Harbor Freight... I checked the prices on a few items from the sale flier, and they are a little better than standard prices and coupon prices. For example, the coupon price for an item was $44 and the sale was $39. Another example, the standard price, $139, coupon price $109, today it was $99. Not everything in the store, of course, but quite a few items.

I don't shop for things I don't need on Black Friday or any other day. If I spend $150 on something I don't need that normally costs $250 I didn't save $100, I lost $150.

20% off state liquor stores if you buy over $100. I stocked up on a couple nice bourbons that were already on sale--Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit and Jefferson's Aged at Sea.

We went out last night and got an air mattress at Target. Regularly $150 for $50. We have been looking for one for when DMIL and grand kids end up at the house on the same day. Pretty happy with the purchase. Only other thing I bought was some lounge/pajama pants for $12. Home to store and back took a little over an hour.

Also ordered a jump drive 256GB for $39.99 from Office Depot (free shipping).

This morning I did my annual trip to Home Depot. Main draw there is the poinsettia for $1. I limit out and get 12. They are small but look good scattered around the house and make some good gifts for the rest of the family. Got a few other things too, but nothing that wasn't planned.

All in all, a good couple shopping excursions.

I'm the same way- I don't even look at the ads. The term "doorbusters" makes me shudder. I'd rather pay more for something and not have to trample people to grab one on sale.

I did find an unexpectedly good price on something I hadn't expected; I've been thinking of going to Edinburgh next fall for awhile now and checking prices periodically. I wanted Business Class and it looked like the desirable flights were running $4,700. Glasgow was more like $4,100 and it's an hour away by train but at least when DH and I went there in 2001, getting from the Glasgow airport to the train station on public transportation was a bit clumsy. Cheaper options to Edinburgh involved two connections, one in Heathrow, which I hate.

Soooo.. this morning I found United/Continental, with a stop only in ORD, for $4,100. I grabbed it. I'm happy! I don't think it was part of any promotion; sometimes the Computer Pricing Algorithm Fairies are feeling benevolent. I go lucky.

Bought some AAA batteries online from Lowes. Free shipping and saved an additional 10% with my vet discount. Spent less this Black Friday than any in the past, by far.

If you're an adobe creative photography plan user, have amazon prime, and the amazon prime store or credit card, there's 20% off a one year subscription.
Go to the prime page on amazon.

I would guess that for a family of two, the 8 quart is overkill.

Most of what you'd cook in an instant pot would freeze well. I don't have one, but do have a slow cooker and a pressure cooker that I use a lot. They're both good for dishes that aren't expected to come out "crispy".

The last time I wore a watch was on my last day of w*rk . . . seventeen months ago. I don’t miss it (neither the watch nor the job).

I got a brand new shiny 2017 iPad, the cheaper model with 32GB storage and wi-fi only. I chose the "space gray" color because the screen is surrounded by black instead of white and I prefer that. I was thrilled to get a good Black Friday price, plus free shipping, because this was entirely a want instead of a need.

We drove past the biggest mall in our area earlier today, and it was absolutely jammed. There wasn't a parking space to be had (not that we wanted one!). I must admit that we were both glad that we weren't standing in line for the Black Friday sales there.

I attended a Old Florida Festival in Naples last week (mostly pre- and post-European-arrival stuff. ) One of the reenactors of Seminole Indian life asked, "What does your slave bracelet say?" It took me a second to realize she was asking for the time.

That's my Black Friday. 99 cent Poinsettas. I bought some for the neighbors too. I did see that some really nice hotel pillows have a 30% discount thru Monday. I've been checking their site for a sale so I guess that will be my weekend purchase. Other than the liquor store, I'm done. Gonna make a couple Old Fashion baskets and write Ho Ho Ho in Gold Sharpie on the Bourbon bottles.
