Are you sure premium is required? Most cars will run on regular, and the engine computer will make adjustments to prevent knocking, with a minor decrease in performance. The manual will usually spell...

Actually, depending on the variables (how many days is a 'season'?, how many hours a day? how much do they pay for electricity?), it could be ball-parkish right.

25,000 LEDs would be 500 strings...

I agree that sounds much cheaper than I would expect. And I was surprised when he said rents in Chicago would me 'much cheaper'. But if that's what he's paying, that's it I guess. I'm just surprised....

Even at double the rent, I think you are doing fine (assuming your income supports this). Not needing a car is a big savings - figure opportunity cost of $20,000 tied up in a car, that would provide...

2014 Update

I've now had three strings outdoors since 2011, so they are on their 4th season. They are protected somewhat, under an awning, but so far not a single LED has gone out, and no intermittent...

Well, that 'lifetime' spec is confusing and misleading. The number that is advertised is the L70 number - the point at which the LED has dimmed to 70% of its original lumen output, it will likely...

Oh, another reason low voltage DC distribution would not be a good idea:

Recall that a 60W equivalent takes 20 separate LEDs. With a 120V source, they put all the LEDs in series, and drive them...

I agree with this - light fixture designers and bulb manufacturers need to change their thinking from mere Edison-filament replacements (see my recent post). Separating the electronics from the LEDS...

This comment got me thinking. First, it makes perfect sense for them to make LEDS the same size as the common A19 sized Edison bulb, so that it can be used anywhere. OTOH, new technology can benefit...

Here's an out-of-the-box approach:

Instead of attacking at an angle, use a Forster bit (will leave a small dimple/hole though) or an end-mill bit and drill straight down (perpendicular to the...

Yes, but caverns like that don't exist everywhere we would need them. And when you factor in losses, you are adding that to the cost of generating the energy. It's a lot to overcome.

What is your basis for this? Most actual tests I've seen show little difference between 'brands' (often just labeling) of alkaline batteries. Though you can certainly pay more for 'brand' names.
