Rock, most "collectors" I know have gone further overboard than mere bargain hunters. There's a lot that can be fun about collecting -- the hunt, the research, the bargains, the appreciation, etc. But unless you're really preserving important artifacts for posterity, I think collecting is feeding neurotic tendencies.
I could give you some horor stories about people I know who collect LARGE objects.... Even books can get nuts, but we all have our weaknesses.
I'm leaning towards catch-and-release collecting. All the fun of an archaeological dig, but without the museum to store stuff.
