I grew up with a wood furnace. I echo KB's comments. As a teenager I moved a lot of wood. Rather not now.

You might look at other options too. Some people in our part of the country use exterior wood boilers--keeps all the mess outside. http://www.cozyheat.net/aqua-therm-o...-furnace.phtml
