Related to that, I listened to an interview (Science Friday?) about high levels of mercury in fish.
In almost every case, the researcher found that the kids with the highest levels of mercury performed better on standardized tests. Seems wrong, right?
The explanation appeared to be, that the higher levels of mercury came from eating a lot of fatty fish. The goodness of the omega-3 oils (or whatever the cause is), outweighed any negatives from the mercury.
Of course, good fish and a healthy diet with less mercury would be preferred. But, bottom line - don't throw out the baby with the bath water. Eat your fruit, veggies and fish!
