Be careful, for load funds some returns are before front-end loads are taken into account and some are not. Here is an example with both return values shown.

For most all funds, the returns are calculated after the expense ratios are taken into account. But for some funds found in annuities, you cannot easily look up the fund return after the annuity expenses are taken account.
