Just got back from the 7-11 with my ticket. At $1 it's worth the 175M->1 odds. It's an experiment for me. I want to see how I handle the pressure of winning all that money. I think I'll be OK. I've spent a large part of my life alienating friends and family, so I've got experience.

I did like the article I read this morning that said I am 33 times more likely to be killed by bees than winning.

I think the better odds are....You are five times more likely to get in a fatal car crash going to buy the ticket......better think about walking.

I wouldnt be surprised if what you said is true. In fact there are probably a few people out there with very little money buying $100 worth of tickets thinking that gives them a decent shot at winning. The odds are almost to big to imagine. If every living person in the US bought 1 ticket, two people would split the jackpot. Assuming my math is correct. I have spent less than $10 on lottery tickets in my life, but $5 of it was " invested" yesterday. I believe I have got $30 of entertainment day dreaming out of it already. It is amazing the detail some of my friends have sent me on what they would do with the money. Im retired so I can day dream, they are supposed to be working

I haven't bought lotto tickets in years, but went to the grocery store today to get a gallon of milk, and left there with a gallon of milk, a corned beef & Swiss on rye from the deli, and $10 worth of Mega Millions tickets!

"IF" we did win it, there's really nothing that we want or need, so a lot of the money would go to some charities that we already contribute to. And I know that there are a few of my close, long-time friends who would never again need to struggle to try to make ends meet!!!

This is from the Las Vegas Sun online newspaper. I did not know Nevada does not participate in the lottery. So they are lining up outside the stateline lottery place to get their ticket. Ya, I admitted I bought 5 of them, but it was only because I bought gas and I was the only person there. I would not have waited five minutes, let alone hours. This is past crazy.

$640 million is a ridiculously large amount of money for a person to suddenly acquire. Unless it goes to someone accustomed to managing sums of this magnitude (unlikely), it represents cruel and unusual punishment.

The other funny thing are the quotes from the people waiting in line to but the lotto tickets:

My husband will buy a ticket or two on the mega millions thing but I don't normally. However I did buy 6 this time. Won on 2 tickets. One ticket matched 2 numbers and matched the mega ball. The other was a match on 3 numbers with a multiplier. My husband had to explain to me what the multiplier was.
Won $51 dollars. I would have thought it would be a bit more but oh well. All of that for $51 dollars. Felt sort of stupid scouring the tickets for that amount! My husband bought I think about $60 worth so that is what I meant by "scouring the numbers". Lots of numbers to go thru.
But hey...I guess one can't win if one doesn't play.

Good thing I did not buy any tickets because I would not have chosen any of the numbers drawn! WHEW! Therefore, as I have written before, the outcome for most people who played the lottery is the same as the outcome for those like me who did not play - ZILCH!

I have spent maybe $20 on lottery tickets in the last 20 years, most of which in office pools when I was working. ER=no more office pools, a small plus in addition to all the other perks of not working.
