I thought it would be cool to see where people on this forum lived past and present. Small town, big city, overseas etc.

Orange County, CA(Go Angels!); Whidbey Island, WA; Doylestown, PA; Groton,Ct; Virginia Beach, VA; Charleston, SC; Lubbock, TX; Moreno Valley, Ca, O'Fallon, IL (Go Cards!); Vacaville, CA; Dallas Metroplex(Go Cowboys!); Granbury, TX

I forgot courtesy of Uncle Sam. SSBN USS Vallejo; Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean; Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

I've lived in 4 different states - and ended up back in the actual house I grew up in.
I've been north and south - east and west - but not midwest.

I spent a summer overseas in Okinawa.

I've lived in larger cites - with the exception of Bellingham, WA - which was a smaller city. I've never lived rural.

I've traveled to 4 continents and about 20 countries.

San Francisco Bay Area; Long Beach, CA; Cincinnati, OH; Louisville, KY; Lexington, KY; San Antonio, TX; Albuquerque, NM.

Most of these I lived in smaller outer suburb or outside the city limits. I prefer out in country vs city.

Born in Virginia
Moved to NJ
Raised in the Bronx, NYC
Back to Virginia
then to Georgia
then two paces in Alabama
Back to Virginia
Back to the Bronx, NYC
Moved to Hudson Valley in NY where I now reside.
I might have one more move left in me. Looking at costal NC, costal SC or costal NE FL.

I have lived in 3 countries (Ireland, the US, and Canada, in that order), in small or medium sized cities, or their suburbs. I have lived in three different provinces in Canada and have visited all provinces except PEI plus the Yukon. I have visited 30 countries to date.

Have spent at least a few days or weeks in all 50 US states, six Canadian provinces, and 14 other countries.

Within Mississippi all my life. Orange Beach, AL is my vacation home and I'm there about a week a month.

How was Ireland? I have been to Canada quite a few times and it is a country I intend to see more of.

I was born and raised in Ireland and lived there well into my mid 20s, so I might be a bit biased. Where do I start? In many ways it's a great country, with friendly people, gorgeous scenery and rich culture. It has its dark side: a history of religiosity and prejudice, and a tendency to corruption and graft. It has improved greatly in recent years in terms of work ethic and human rights. But it still rains a lot (it's the only way to get 40 shades of green). I left in the 80s for two reasons: 1. To seek opportunities that would not be available at home and 2. To get away from "the valley of the squinting windows". I suppose I have a love-hate relationship with the place.

Does that help?

1. Small village (pop. ~400) in Western Europe - rural & isolated (5 years)
2. Mid-size city (pop. ~500K) in Western Europe - very international for its size (13 years)
3. Larger city (pop. ~1.3M) in Western Europe - beautiful, historic city (5 years)
4. Mid-size city (pop. ~500K) in SE US - fast expanding metro area (7 years)
5. Smaller city (pop. ~180K) in SE US - feels quite rural for a city of this size (8 years)
6. Larger city (pop. >800K) in Western US - part of large metro area, pop. ~7M (5 years)

I prefer smaller to mid-sized cities and plan to split my time in the future between #2 (city lifestyle with an international flair) and #5 (rural lifestyle with decent small city amenities nearby).

Iowa College town (50K)
Iowa farm town (5600) (referred to by DW as "The black hole")

DC Metro Area

Can't say that I have a definitive preference for larger vs. smaller metro areas. It seems that whichever we are in, we are missing something from the other. Grass is always greener syndrome at work.

Too many places! More than anyone who has posted so far and I don't even want to think about it. It's gross.

I don't like moving around all the time, like I have had to do during most of my life. I hate it with a passion. Consequently I am determined to stay put. I am as firmly planted as I can possibly manage, right here, right now. I don't want to or intend to EVER move again. :nonono: Nope, no way, not me, not again (please!!!)

F and I were just talking about this an hour ago. We don't see any reason right now why we would ever need to move again. Of course, situations change but so far so good. :-\
