FIRE and health insurance w/pre-existing conditions

Might very well be true. Regardless, the one-life premium for me, at 55 years old, would be over $1500/month. For me, that's a deal killer (as I would imagine it would be for the vast majority of people, even those that are lucky enough to have retired so early.)

FIRE and health insurance w/pre-existing conditions

You betcha. Hell, I'm already paying $680/month with a $5000 deductible, and I'm a healthy, non-smoking, not overweight 54 year old female. BUT I have pre-existing conditions on my record, and still take medication related to that condition. No insurance company will accept me without being...

FIRE and health insurance w/pre-existing conditions

Michael, I appreciate and understand what you are staying. But I'm not sure I am explaining myself properly. The government of Florida is (evidently) considering amending the law that require insurers who do business in Florida to offer this small business coverage. The reason they are...

FIRE and health insurance w/pre-existing conditions

The Florida Dept of Financial Services was who I spoke to about the one-life insurance - meaning, a small business located in Florida, with only one employee who resides in Florida. Open enrollment and guaranteed acceptance is the month of August only. They were the ones that told me that...

FIRE and health insurance w/pre-existing conditions

May I ask what state that is?

FIRE and health insurance w/pre-existing conditions

Yep - I looked at that already. In my age group (I will be 55 in November), in Lee Country (which seems to be pretty middle of the road premium wise), the cost for THIS year would be $1500+/month. The open enrollment period is August. There is also a question about how long a business must be...

    0.00% Loan Interest Rate

Actually, the dealer doesn't give a rip if you pay cash. In fact, they often get paid an additional kick-back if you finance the deal through them. Like a commission for doing the loan. I'd take the loan, and keep my cash in the bank. Hell, we took a 1.9% loan last year, so that we could...

FIRE and health insurance w/pre-existing conditions

We are blessed with a paid off mortgage, no other debt, and sufficient finances to keep us going (unless we get really stupid). Our biggest, most worrisome problem is health insurance for me. I am ten years away from Medicare eligibility, and have pre-existing conditions that eliminate me...

Glad to have found this board!

It's finding health insurance that I'm interested in! :( I'll start at FIRE and money. Thanks!

Glad to have found this board!

BTW, where would be the appropriate board for questions regarding health insurance for someone below Medicare age?

Glad to have found this board!

We've never done house sitting - mostly because we have our own dog who travels with us when we are gone for more than just a few weeks. Understandably, most people prefer to hire house sitters who will not be bringing their own pets. We have done home exchanges - 5 of them total, in 3...

Glad to have found this board!

Hello - I'm glad I found you guys! My husband retired about 5 years ago, at 63.5. I waited to retire until he was eligible for Medicare, and finally took that step in May, 2009, by accepting a voluntary layoff. Great decision - we've traveled, been able to escape the heat of our current...
