    My New Electric Bike

The folding bikes I am looking at are 26 inch wheels with fatish tyres. I decided the 20 inch wheels are not my thing even though they fold down smaller. A bike carrier is an thought but I am probably too lazy to be attaching the bike carrier, removing etc every week.

    My New Electric Bike

Apologies for pushing this thread up again. I am looking at buying a folding e bike as it will fit in the back of my car (electric) so I can take it to national parks etc and ride it on bike paths. With a non folding bike, I am stuck closer to home. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Net worth Today

My financial advisor tells me I have more money than I could spend in my lifetime based on my previous spending habits. I told her that means I need to change my spending habits or my working career has been a waste of time and effort.

What to do if you want to retire abroad

Rob, I can relate to what you are saying. I have been an expat for the last 34 years. Currently living and working in Indonesia but I would not retire here (or anywhere else overseas). I feel the need to live back in Australia but plan to travel extensively in my retirement (pandemic...

ER in 2017 for Expats Heading Home

Lucantes, I am also a long term expat (but not from US). I did try retirement a couple of years ago - but decided to take up another expat role for various reasons (none of them financial). Just wondering how your estimate of retirement living expenses stacks up against reality after 4 years?

    Travel hopes for 2022

I doubt if Australia and New Zealand for leisure travel until 2022 and even then they will probably still require some form of mandatory quarantine. Currently it is 14 days strict lock up quarantine - by 2022 it may change to home quarantine for 14 days but that is not going to work for foreign...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I have watched 3 great series in the last month (too much time at home). They are; Keiler Street - Norwegian series where various people with shady pasts are given new identities but put together in the same street in a small town in Norway where there has not been a serious crime since the...

    90 plus lifestyle & spending

My father died in 2019 at age 95. He was fit and active until the last 12 months of his life. He had a fall at close to 94 and never really recovered and had to move into a nursing home (assisted living). Although he was mentally and physically active until about 94, I think he basically...

    90 plus lifestyle & spending

We are all told to make sure our retirement nest egg does not run out and that many of us now have a good chance of living well into our 90s (in my case, based on genetics, it seems to be a good probability), however, have any of us actually planned for a 90s lifestyle? If we live to our 90s...

    Travel hopes 2021

The Australian government's most recent estimate (6 October) is that Australian borders will stay closed to foreign visitors and that Australians will not be able to leave the country for leisure travel until end of 2021. There may be some possible exceptions involving New Zealand, Singapore...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Midsomer Murders - has been going for so long and so many murders in a small village. Even the original Inspector Barnaby found it too much and had to be replaced by his nephew, who is also Inspector Barnaby. Despite this, always end up watching the next series of Midsomer Murders. Apparently...

    Expat approaching the finish line

You quarantine must have been better than the Australian government quarantine. In Australia everyone arriving has to do 14 days in a room with no time out for exercise, no ability to open windows for fresh air. Plus you have to pay the government $A3,000 for the experience.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Is that the Australian series? If so, I watched it a while ago and very good. Just watched Bodyguard and Young Wallander on Netflix - both good but I thought the original Wallander was better. Now watching Borgen. I saw bits and pieces of this series when originally on TV about 8 years ago...

    Expat approaching the finish line

In the current Covid 19 environment, it is probably better to put off the decision on moving between 2 or more retirement locations until you are closer to the actual retirement date (hopefully by then, things will be clearer). I am a long term expat (over 30 years) and my wife and I have homes...
