    What led you to retire??

Stress, a bad commute, and seeing co-workers stay too long and lose their skills. Wanted to stay ahead of the game. Its been over two years. No regrets.

    Mentally preparing for retirement

I found the Atlantic article fascinating. I worked with several people who refused to retire and their decline was visible and sad to watch. Better to leave on a high note. Thanks for posting!

    Anyone been to Africa?

Direct flights to Cape Town United Airlines just announced plans to fly direct from EWR (Newark) to Cape Town. It’s the only non stop between U.S. and Cape Town.

    Costa Rica help

Can't help you with a villa, but if you want to stay for a night or two on either end of the trip, we loved Xandari Resort & Spa. Close to San Jose airport with beautiful property that's private and safe.

Do you believe in taking Vitamin?

I am in the camp that vitamins and supplements are a waste of money. My sister buys all sorts of supplements/vitamins from her chiropractor who seems to have become her health guru. Makes me angry. Many of the supplement/vitamin sales are just multi-level marketing.

    Anyone been to Africa?

Would recommend any of the lodges at Madikwe Game Reserve. No malaria, so no nasty pills needed. Also, no need to take a small plane (one just crashed in Kenya and killed 5 tourists). Its a 3-4 hour drive from Johannesburg or Lanseria Airport. Big 5 as well as wild dogs. Highly recommend! PM me...

Sweet spot for those considering RE

    1. I retired at 56, but I think the sweet spot is between 55-60. 2. No regrets at all. Just wish I gave LESS notice at my job. Psychologically, it would have been better not to talk about it for so many months before leaving. 3. Biggest fear was not finding people to hang out with during the...

    Awake During Colonoscopy--Again?

I had a completely drug free colonoscopy. The anesthesiologist sat in the corner reading a book the entire time! It was not painful at all, with just a minor amount of cramping. After the procedure, I hopped off the stretcher and walked home. No need for an escort. I carefully considered the...

    Visa or Mastercard

A bit off topic, but if you go to an AMEX office or other money exchange place in South Africa, make sure you bring your passport with you. Its required.

Check out Trip Advisor's Antarctic Adventures Forum. Lots of info and trip reports. Seabourn and Ponant are also options.

    FIRE book suggestions

Thank you so much for the book suggestions. Ended up purchasing A Random Walk Down Wall Street, and my son loved it!! He said it was the perfect read to start his FIRE journey. Any suggestions for a second book which might compliment what he has already learned?

    Tauck tours...worth the price?

We recently met a couple who have been on 15 Tauck tours and absolutely rave about them. Started to look at the national parks trips and discovered Tauck is MUCH more expensive than other companies. Would love to hear from others who have taken Tauck and can speak to what the extra cost provides.

    Signed up for some classes

New Classes I have also started new classes. Mostly at the gym...pilates and yoga. The Apple store nearby has free classes which have been fun to take. Recently bought my first "real" camera which I bring on birdwatching walks. Having the time (and stress free mind) to explore new activities is...

    FIRE book suggestions

Looking for books about investing for my millennial son who has developed an interest in FIRE after seeing how happy I am. :) He has already read the Millionaire Teacher and is ready for something more advanced about investing. Suggestions?
