Where to travel alone but still be very safe?

Agree with the group tours, I did that a lot when I was a single female. They arrange for pickup (and in some cases have someone there to meet you at baggage claim). All safe and lots of options to choose from.

    Any cheese makers here?

Amen to this. I have made ricotta a couple of times and liked it. I should look at cheesemaking.com and try other soft cheeses now that I have the time.

    class c RV

We rented an RV in 2020 and travelled with 2 cats. When DH retires in 2 years we want to buy an RV (gently used) and spend 2-3 months on the road with our 2 cats and our dog. There are a ton of youtube videos on people travelling with their dogs so you may want to check those out. Some...

    2 Years FIRE'd

Like many people, I started baking a lot during the pandemic shutdowns and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately the scale showed how much I enjoyed it (both DH and I put on 10 lbs) so I stopped (and the weight came off, unsurprisingly). So this is a really fun volunteer gig for me - I get to enjoy...

    2 Years FIRE'd

Its been awhile since I posted, and technically its been 2 years and 2 months so I'm a bit late posting this update. ER has been simply amazing. The first year was busy as I married by SO of many years and we took an amazing cruise around the Galapagos. The second year was busy with raising a...

    Washington State road trip

We did this road trip last July! From SoCal we drive up the coast through Oregon, Washington. Did a 3 day kayaking tour on the San Juan Islands, then back to mainland and a few days wine tasting in the Willamette Valley. We spent two weeks in total and travelled with our dog. Second the...

Have You Upsized Your TV Recently?

We upgraded our living room TV a year or so ago from a 46 inch LCD (still works, so we moved it into the guest room) to a 65 inch OLED 4k TV. We sit about 8 ft away. No issues from that distance. We probably could have fur a 75 inch TV but didn't want it. The 65 looks good on the wall...

    Water Fountain for Pets

We have 2 Cat Mate fountains (one upstairs, one downstairs) for our 2 kitties and they love it. We do have to clean them but we will clean one at a time so the other is always available. Hydration is so important to the king term health of indoor cats, especially if they are fed dry kibble...

Timing of retirement discussion with boss

I had my conversation with my boss the Friday before labor day, and targeted year end to leave to allow them time to hire a replacement. They found someone and my boss asked me to stay a bit longer through January to help train the new person. It felt right to me to give advance notice. My...

Pre-Diabetic level - Doc suggest no bread/pasta - What's your substitute for bread?

Same here. It took a few weeks to get used to it but after that it was fine. Artificial sweeteners are not good for you.

    Peru

I hiked the Inca Trail in 2009! One of my favorite trips ever. Take tons of photos on the trail and savor every moment!

    Class of 2022

Absolutely! I stopped doing races because it was too difficult to find the training time. Then eventually stopped running altogether. Now, I'm enjoying my daily training and looking forward to race day!

    Class of 2022

Update after 7 months post-FIRE. So far it's been fantastic. I'm now getting to the point where I don't feel like I am not just 'off from work' and just enjoying the days. Signed up for a half marathon (I used to run a lot but then work responsibilities pushed that to the side) and started...

How much do you pay your pet sitter?

$30 a day for one 30 min visit for two shy cats. The sitter comes in, scoops boxes, fills the food auto feeder, fills water. Then leaves a treat for the cats who eat it after she leaves. She also feeds our fish (one freshwater tank and one saltwater tank) and brings any packages inside. We...

Went to Dentist for a Crown

So I've been neglecting some dental work for the past few years and getting caught up now while I have DH's great dental coverage (he'll retire in 3-4 years. I am getting two old crowns replaced, and one old bridge removed and replaced with implants. Total out of pocket to me is about $1600...
