    Ramifications of Revealing Wealth

So I am not the only one. Of course my father never paid me back and borrowed ever larger sums of money. When my mother found out, she told me to tell her and that she would pay me back. Course when she passed away during my teenage years, the loans became permanent transfers of money but by...

Anybody signing up without a subsidy?

No subsidy here, in CO getting a bronze plan with a lower deductible (~1k lower but higher out of pocket max) for the same price my private insurance just offered to early renew me for so I could keep my old coverage for 1 more year. I do private insurance because I get access to an HSA and its...

    Milestone Twofer

Congrats! Hope to hit those two in a few months myself. DH is 30 and I am 32 and I think you are well ahead of the curve. Got to remember that an early retirement forum is full of outliers. :)

Staying Happy during the Long Slog to ER

When you have another 10+ years (we are right around there too), you do have to remember to enjoy life now as well as save enough for later. It helps us that we know we value our vices and our savings plan so both get some of our money in accordance with our priorities. Since both our vices and...

Weird? Faced a lot of hardship? Take heart.

Both for me. I think the big thing with #1 is that it makes you think harder about what you want out of life.

    walk slow or fast

Actually, if you look at cardude's numbers you will realize its the miles that burn the calories, not the speed (1 hour at 4mph = 2 hours at 2 mph). The big issue is the more you walk, the faster pace you will walk at naturally. So you might start slow but end up walking fast after awhile.

    Scotland

When we went, we took buses and trains to various locations and based ourselves out of Edinburgh. Beautiful city with lots of places to explore. We also chose to stay in a hostel and the ages of visitors there ranged alot which made for interesting conversations. You can grab day tour buses out...

Where will you be in five years?

We own the house, not even close on the remodeling but enough to be happy and number 3 would have been true except that a series of layoffs eventually led us both to access to 401(k)s vastly increasing our tax-preferred options. Nonetheless, number 3 should be true by the end of this year...

2010 Garden - who's gearing up for planting?

Me too!!! Can't wait. This will be the first year for veggies at my house so I am definitely looking forward to it. Have to wait till May to plant outside though so I am trying not to start them too soon...

What is Your HDTV "Number" -- Read Instructions

46" at 10 feet (perfect). Used to have 32" at 10 feet and that had me squinting. Hadn't realized that my old place had the tv at 8 feet so I thought my vision was going at first.

    Home rental after ER

The last four places I rented did not require me to prove income. They did all pull a credit report and some called references. Two of those was a mom & pop operation (they owned a couple of rental communities but evaluated people by how much they liked you), another was a single owner (we paid...

    What's Your Sleep Attire?

I got tired of being strangled by my nightwear a long time ago, my PJ's are only for spending the night at other people's houses. And in response to Moemg, I happen to want my sleep to get interrupted. Happens too rarely in my case. *sigh*

    ESR? Coloradans advice appreciated

Fort Collins is a wonderful city and your budget seems reasonable to me. But then I am biased in favor of Colorado. I love to travel but suspect that Colorado will be my permanent home base because there is so much to do and see and such good weather for doing it. Beware though, every nice day...

The Dr has 1/2 million in student loans!

Agreed. Its one of the things I hate about "woe is me I have student loans" articles that keep cropping up. Student loans allowed me to graduate with a college degree.

Are loans normally structured this way?

I have one of these student loans as well. Daily interest is how it is calculated. Mine looks a little smoother than yours but I have electronic draft which helps guarantee accurate deposit days.
