I'm upside down on my mortagage..should i even try to refinance?

In my reply to this thread I just want to say that I am not judging anyone, especially in these difficult (housing) times. This board has been very helpful to many as well as being very friendly. Something that most of us here don't take lightly here. That being said, it is sad to see how...

I agree with visiting your small local banks and cu. Have all your paper work in order, tax returns, copies of assets? Mutual funds, stocks, bonds, etc. My small local bank actually called ME at home two days ago!:flowers::flowers::blush:

    55%, 80%, Nay, it's 135%!!

Great advice. Thanks for pointing this out. (That your 401k and IRA will probably be replaced with extra travel and hobbies, etc.) I doubt that many will be able to reach 100% let alone 135%...?

    Details of your buckets

+1 This is very close to how DW/ I have set as a target, although we are looking at a few more years until ER than you. So I look at AA more than buckets @ this point.

How are people handling the recent down market?

+1 As hard as it can be some days, I'm buying. Looking long term and standing my ground with a conservative AA.

    Who Is Buying?

Adding to my 401k each week. I feel my AA reflects my level of risk. 60/40 +1 Staying pat.

Yet another scary study on how poor Americans are...

Call it "old fashioned" if you like. Like many others here, we are happy to be with this group.(25%) By paying off cc balances each month, and saving to pay cash for cars etc. we have been able to save thousands in interest charges alone. The look on the car dealers face when I offered 20k...

    Healthcare Sector

I/DW also have held VG health for over 15 years. We have held this fund for many of the same reasons as the other posters. Foreign Co. etc. I also like the idea of investing in research/health related issues. That being said, just remember that this fund is listed as Aggressive Growth. I have...
