    Fitness Activities In Early Retirement

One more thing to throw out there that nobody else has mentioned. See if there is a rock-climbing gym in your area. There are usually bouldering and/or rope gyms. Bouldering will be a little more intense for older bodies because you are jumping off the wall onto a thick pad. (So unless...

    Gas vs Electric Clothes Dryer?

I will be considering this when I go to replace my washer/dryer. Expensive yes (Although it is a replacement for both units, it's still expensive), but I think it will get cheaper in the next few years. Would I do it at this price, I'm not sure. Something to check out though...

    The Electric Vehicle Thread

I have a 2020 Bolt that has a bike rack on it. This allows me to see the brake lights very clearly at night when I have my bike loaded. The bike lights up very clearly when the brake lights turn on, so I have done some playing with it to see if the lights turn on when I think they should So...

How in the World Can a Car Lock Itself With the Key Still in the Car???

I did this exact thing with my Chevy Bolt, but amazingly it saved me. when I closed the back hatch with the backpack in it. The car beeped at me to tell me the key fob was left in the car. I was like oh crap... I'm locked out, but when I went to the front of the car to try the door it turns out...

    Crashed after ER?

You might want to check to make sure you aren't having blood sugar issues, my dad had something like that happen when he retired.. turns out he is diabetic... Laters, -d.

    Simple Test Predicts Longevity

I can't stand up like the girl in the video, once I get down that low my butt doesn't touch the ground unless I rock my weight back which causes me to fall back. Getting up that way is impossible for me. I don't think its a function of flexability, I can bend over and touch my toes... and then...

    Free Programs, Software & Education

Check out Khan Academy for a ton of really good videos on all kinds of stuff. Its the biggest collection of free teaching guides I've ever seen. Really amazing what he has done.

Did you, or will you, 72t to ER?

I plan on using Roth rollovers + 5 years to pull the $ from my IRA(s). I think that provides alot more freedom than doing 72t. The downside is you need to have enough to live 5 years in taxable, and you need to be able to project out 5 years on expenses. Laters, -d.

If you make a deal, do you stand by it?

This reminds me of this "game": Ultimatum game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia If you have the car you want, and you paid $2000 less due to a mistake, the dealer is asking for $1000 to "split the difference". But you feel that is wrong, so instead of thinking to yourself, I'm getting $1000...

How did you react to the crisis?

I went back to work in the middle of the crisis... not because I needed to (wife is still working a very stable job), but because an interesting opportunity found me. Since our cash flow almost doubled, I bought a new car, finished a solar hot water project 1-2 years sooner, started eating out...

Fastest you've ever gone on a BICYCLE

Wife and I on a tandem doing 59.5 mph. I wasn't scared at the time. Now thinking back on it, I should have been scared :) ... I doubt I'd ever do anything close to that again. First, there is no way she would let me. She wasn't very happy the first time around, now 15 years later I doubt she'd...

    OK, job advice requested

I've been following this thread with interest. Here a bit of my long and rambling work story: I have been working for a startup company for the last 5 years that has paid me a significant % of the company in shares (I'm 1 of 5 founders), but no actually $$. Only 2 of us are left doing anything...

Gone back to work and regretted it?

I have been a stay at home dad/Early Retired for the last 5 years. I got a call a few months ago about a job in my old career field (IT). An old co-worker had moved on to another job, and the place he was working had lost one of their employees, and needed somebody for a couple months to cover...

Is being a slacker a problem in ER?

Looking at life that way, you will need motivation to succeed in retirement. You will want to create goals or lists, to complete for daily/weekly/monthly/yearly... get very task oriented so you don't "waste" time. Before you do that, I recommend you think hard about where do you draw the line...
