The True Cost of Upgrading Your Phone

I fall in the camp that the iPhones we have are some of the most used things we have so spending money on them is not a problem. I have my iPhone next to me 16 hours a day and the other 8 it is on the night stand just a little further. Gets used all of the time. Same for my wife's iPhone...

Product shortages in your area ?

We have been out traveling around the South East. One thing I have picked up on is that places are out of cups. At Kentucky Fried Chicken outside of LittleRock, no cups of any size. When I asked they said it had been that way for a couple of days and they were not sure when they would get...

    Retirement - 90 days in

Want to thank everyone for the great comments and encouragement. Writing things down is cathartic and I I really want to pay back all of the info I read on this forum while I was getting prepped for retirement

    Retirement - 90 days in

Oh, I want to add one more thing. I no longer fear my cell phone. I lived attached to the phone so sr. executives could call or for employees could escalate issues. Every time it rang I cringed and every night/weekend I was tense waiting for the texts and calls. Anytime it rings now I am good.

    Downtown Portland, OR

Not so sure about Portland. I don't think it is as nice as it was 10-20 years ago. If I was wanting to move out to Oregon I would take a look at Astoria. I actually fell in love with that town and it is about an hour to the west of Portland on the Columbia River where it enters the Pacific...

    Retirement - 90 days in

So I have been retired for just over 90 days so far and these are my observations: - Was it the right choice to retire? So far I think so. I am still not sure and still adjusting to what I do on a daily basis but I am much happier and under much less stress than when I was working. My blood...

Car Rental rates have gone down A LOT

Something I noticed when I rented an AVIS car (Nissan Pathfinder with Florida tag) last week in PIT. It had 41,000 miles on it. Now I have not traveled much in the last 4 years but this was the first time I had a vehicle with that many miles from wither Hertz or Avis. Price that I paid was...

Hotel Breakfasts - Post Corona Crisis

Stayed at the Tru hotel by Hilton 2 days a couple of weeks ago in Savanah. Breakfast we the same as before Covid or at least was the same as at a Hampton before Covid. Eggs, Sausage, Pancakes (not waffles), fruit, cereal, bagels, English muffins, toast, OJ, Milk and coffee. I was happy...

How long until I adjust to retirement?

I am 2 months into retirement and still adjusting but getting better each day. I think breaking any routine is a good thing and starting a new one is probably helpful. A lot of my friends that were already retired suggested taking a trip soon after leaving work and I now thing they were right...

    One week post-FIRE

Glad things are working out. Also glad we are not the only ones purging stuff. I retired 6 weeks ago and we have committed to getting rid of 2 trash bags worth of stuff (or boxes or whatever) a week until we get through the house. Amazing we went through the laundry room this week and can...

First week FIREd: What are your Tips and Suggestions?

Retired just over 1 month ago. Take a trip to make a real transition. I did not even though many of my friends suggested it. I should have taken their advise in hindsight. I was doing a split between work from home and working in the office before I retired. The work at home helped with...

Just gave my notice... and feeling sad

Yesterday was my last day. Huge range of emotions and by lunch I was emotionally drained. Had to stick around for the obligatory cake and ice cream but all I wanted to do by lunch was take a nap. It was both good and bad since it brought up some more emotions mostly seeing friends that I...

    Class of 2021

By the time I drove home I was emotionally drained. Since I made the decision to retire I have gone from happy to sad, from excited to scared and every emotion in between. Once I engage the logical side of my brain everything goes back to OK and I know it was the right decision but man the...

    Class of 2021

For the required cake and ice cream party to finish. I wanted to just fade away but for the good of the order and since I actually like the folks I worked with, why not. I had no zoom calls to be on (hopefully never again)
